I made an omelette (to share) for dinner tonight. It was filled with mushrooms, tomatoes and goat-camembert (no spring onions, due to another shopping failure).

I also made a few hash browns.

Tonight I cooked pasta (capellini) and meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce.

It was fantastic, despite my having to substitute the parsley with other herbs, due to a shopping failure.

There were enough meatballs to freeze for another day; frozen without sauce, otherwise they go soggy.

For today's brunch Sheryl made porridge (oatmeal, to American readers), which we ate with banana, pecans, maple syrup and brown sugar.

It was yummy.

We then shared a mango (my favourite fruit). Mangos are always a bit hit-and-miss in Germany, but this one was actually good.

For our regular curry evening I cooked a turkey satay and rice.

I made the satay using some duck fat, which gave it some extra flavour.

We both ate two portions, but there was still enough to freeze for another day (as part of a thali).

On a recommendation from one of Sheryl's colleagues, Sheryl had bought a pumpkin-spice pancake mix, which we had for brunch today.

We ate the pancakes with sprinkled with some pean pieces, and with maple syrup.

We were not very impressed with the pumpkin-spice pancakes, and I don't think we will have them again.

We went shopping this afternoon at Metro, and bought a lot of stuff, some for Sheryl's work and some for ourselves. Afterwards I really didn't feel like cooking, so we went to Sushi Cent for dinner.

We shared a platter of sashimi for our starter. Sheryl had Maki For All as her main course. I had Tori (chicken) Teriyaki, because the weather was too cold to have a cold dinner.

We drank a bottle of Pinot Grigio and a bottle of sparkling water with our dinner.

Everything was lovely.

Sheryl came home late tonight because of another work event, so I heated up frozen pizzas for dinner.

Sheryl had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with tuna and red onion; I had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies, capers and red onion.

Tonight I cooked pasta (capellini) Alfredo with broccoli. It was delicious.

Sheryl had a work event this evening, so I was on my own for dinner.

I heated up some frozen left over venison stew, which I ate with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For dessert I ate some of the Lindt chocolate with cognac from the advent calendar.

I cooked orange chicken, served with saffron rice and garnished with black and white sesame seeds, for dinner tonight.

It was lovely, although next time I cook it I will make more sauce.

For tonight's dinner we made a cheesy mushroom and spinach puff-pastry roll.

For dessert we had the mince pies that were in our advent calendar today, with cream.

For brunch today I bought croissants and pain au chocolat.

We ate the croissants with either duck liver and truffle paté or sambal smeerkaas (cream cheese with sambal oelek mixed in).

The paté was a little disappointing. It is a brand that we have bought before, so I guess they have changed the recipe.

Tonight for our curry evening I cooked turkey redang and coconut rice.

For some reason the sauce curdled (as it always does when we freeze it), so it looks a bit weird, but it tasted great.

For today's brunch I made scrambled eggs on toast.

As usual, Sheryl had some of her "everything but the bagel" seasoning on her eggs.

During the interval at the ballet we had a table booked at the Ludwig Zwei (in the theatre) for dessert and drinks.

We both had red wine and sparkling water. I had an apple strudel; Sheryl thought she had ordered am piece of opera cake, but (due to the lack of proper descriptions on the restaurant web-site) actually got ice-cream and a berry sauce.

Tonight we had tickets to see a ballet, so as usual we went to Zum Franziskaner beforehand for dinner.

Sheryl ordered the tuna and avocado tartar, which comes with a side-salad and rye bread (she substituted French fries, since she is allergic to rye).

I ordered the fiery sausages with sauerkraut and mashed potato (which I substituted with potato salad).

Sheryl drank a glass of red wine and sparkling water, and I drank a Weißbier.

It was all lovely.

For tonight's dinner I made penne with zucchini, mint and ricotta.

It was lovely, as usual.

Tonight I cooked frozen pizzas: for me a salami and pepperoni pizza topped with red onion and an egg (pictured), and for Sheryl a spinach pizza topped with red onion and an egg.

For dinner this evening I made a salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, avocado and feta) which we ate with left over roast chicken and home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

Tonight Sheryl made quesadillas (filled with cheese and home-made refried beans), which we ate with a vegetarian chili (which I cooked this afternoon), guacamole and sour cream.

For tonight's dinner I roasted a chicken. There was stuffing (of course - the best part of any roast poultry dinner), with figs, mushrooms, herbs and onion. There were also roast potatoes and carrots, plus home-made gravy.

Today's brunch was eggs Benedict on home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls, with bacon; one of my favourite breakfasts.

Sheryl likes to have arugula (rocket) with hers, but I can't stand the stuff. She also likes "everything but the bagel" seasoning on her eggs.

Sheryl ate the rest of her grapefruit with her brunch.

This evening, after seeing Gladiator II at the cinema, we walked down to Stachus and went to the Christmas market. This is a very small market, part of the ice-skating rink, but it is one of the few open so early in the season.

We each had a Glühwein (mulled wine) and a pair of spicy Polish sausages in a bun.

For today's brunch I made toasted cheese (mature cheddar) and Branston pickle sandwiches.

Sheryl also had half a grapefruit (I can't eat grapefruit because I take statins).

For our regular curry evening I made a beef and mushroom madras, which we ate with naan bread.

This is one of my favourite curries, but it creates a lot of dirty pans and dishes.

Tonight I cooked spicy rigatoni vodka, which was delicious, as usual.

For dinner tonight I cooked lentil soup with vegan wiener, served with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls: a hearty dish which is great for cold weather.

We didn't have enough green lentils, so I used a mixture of green and brown lentils.

For our dinner tonight I cooked a selection of frozen Dim Sum.

We made vegetarian burgers for dinner tonight, using some of my home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls as the buns.

I made some chips (French fries) to eat with the burgers.

The burgers were especially good tonight; it seems to depend on what temperature I cook the patties at.

For dessert we ate some of the left over bread and butter pudding.

For our dinner tonight I made a salad, and Sheryl made baked feta in filo.

We had home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls with the salad.

For dessert I made a bread and butter pudding, using up some brioche bread, which was gorgeous (very lemony).

I cooked banana pancakes for our brunch today.

We ate them mostly with maple syrup, but some with either peanut butter or nutella.

Sheryl bought some out of season asparagus (from Mexico) today at the supermarket, so I made pasta with prawns and asparagus for dinner.

It was absolutely delicious; the addition of sun-dried tomatoes and saffron to the original recipe really elevates this dish.

For dessert we ate chocolate steamed puddings (Aunty's) that we ordered from a British online store some time ago (they needed to be used up). We ate the puddings with cream.

Sheryl made French toast for today's brunch.

We ate it with a selection of berries (raspberries, strawberries and blueberries) and maple syrup.

Tonight's dinner was a thali (two curries from the freezer, with some naan bread).

For tonight's dinner we had truffle pasta in a tomato and truffle sauce (the pasta and sauce both from Käfer - the Harrods of Munich).

For dessert we had Gü cheesecakes.

I made a salad, and mustard and tarragon chicken, for dinner tonight.

We ate it with some home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For dinner tonight we ate the left over chicken pot pie. I made some sauté potatoes as a side.

Sheryl made a big batch of chocolate muffins to take to work. We ate a couple for dessert (the one pictured is with spiced pumpkin icing).

Today, for brunch, we went to the Luffy Pancake Café, for some of their super-fluffy pancakes.

We each had a cappuccino.

Sheryl ordered a banana split, and I ordered a Poire belle Hélène (pear and almond).

They were both nice, but probably not as good as we hoped.

For dinner tonight we cooked salmon baked in pesto on a bed of green beans and topped with cherry tomatoes, with a side of mashed potatoes.

It was lovely.

For today's brunch we had raw vegetables () and crisps/chips (Jura cheese flavoured crisps from Muji) with French onion dip.

I cooked a chicken pot pie for dinner tonight.

The filling was a little runnier than normal, so it spread across the plate when it was served, but tasted great.

For dessert we had the things that we brought home from La Dolce Vita earlier.

For our brunch today we went to an Italian Gelateria/café/bakery, La Dolce Vita, on Lindwurmstraße next to the Poccistraße U-Bahn station (they don't have a web-site).

We had cappuccinos, a pistachio croissant and a cannoli. We then went for another round: more cappuccinos, a rum baba, a mini pistachio tiramisu, and two more small bites that I don't know the name of.

Everything was delicious, and we will definitely go there again.

Before we left, we bought some more things for dessert tonight.

To celebrate Sheryl's birthday, which is actually on Tuesday next week, we went out to dinner at Le Stollberg (a French restaurant in the centre of Munich).

We were served some bread and an amuse bouche based on sole.

We then shared our starters: foie gras and steak tartar. Both were delicious.

For her main course, Sheryl had monkfish, although she said it wasn't as good as the monkfish she had there last time.

I had stuffed quail and forest mushrooms, which was very good.

For dessert, after a significant pause, Sheryl had the chocolate lava cake, which she said was even better than her own, and I opted for the cheese platter (the cheeses were arranged in order from mild to strong).

Because the restaurant knew that we were celebrating Sheryl's birthday, they also brought a decorated plate with some small pieces of chocolate cake.

We drank a bottle of Amarone (a rich Italian red wine) with our dinner. I also had a glass of Armagnac after the meal.

The evening was great, with wonderful food, drink and outstanding service.

For today's brunch I made scrambled eggs on toast.

Tonight, for dinner, I cooked a risotto with butternut squash, sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes.

We garnished it with chili flakes.

Tonight I cooked two frozen pizzas for dinner: for Sheryl a mozzarella and tomato pizza, topped with an egg; for me a pizza Spezial (ham, salami and mushrooms).

I am still suffering from the stomach bug, so we had something light and easy for dinner: New England Clam Chowder from the freezer, and the last of my home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

Still feeling under the weather, so I cooked myself a frozen pizza for dinner.

Sheryl travelled home from Berlin this evening, arriving very late, so she ate at the train station in Berlin.

I was still suffering with the stomach bug, and had very little appetite, so I made myself a couple of toasted sandwiches with Gruyère and Branston pickle.

Today Sheryl went to Berlin today for a few days of meetings, so I was on my own for dinner.

Sheryl went to a French restaurant in Berlin which specialises in truffles, and had a lovely dinner.

I went out for a burger. Unfortunately I was suffering with a stomach 'flu', and was unable to eat most of my burger.

For tonight's dinner I cooked baked feta and cherry tomato pasta.

As usual, it was lovely.

For our brunch today I made poached eggs on toast.

Tonight we went to our neighbours Isabelle and Markus for dinner.

We took starters (samosas and vegetable pakoras, bought at the Swagat Indian restaurant) and the main course (a very mild turkey badam pasanda, served with rice, naan and onion kulcha).

Isabelle provided a cheesecake.

The kids (Erik and Ann Sophia) seemed to enjoy the starters, but Erik found the curry a little too spicy.

For our brunch today Sheryl made scones: some cheese (with Parmesan, cheddar and Gruyère) and some date scones.

We ate the cheese scones with butter, and the date scones with clotted cream and fig jam.

Tonight we heated up frozen chicken enchiladas verde, which we ate with sour cream and guacamole.

Sheryl made us margaritas to drink with dinner.

I cooked the pumpkin and ricotta ravioli, that Sheryl bought at the weekend, for dinner. I served it in a tomato sauce.

We could barely taste the pumpkin; it really needed a sauce with a lighter flavour.

Tonight I cooked an omelette (a 6-egg omelette to share), filled with spring onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and goat camembert, for dinner.

Normally, with omelette I make hash browns, but we were out of potatoes, so I heated up some frozen home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls instead.

For dinner tonight we made corned beef puff pastry rolls (just mash up a tin of corned beef with a little ketchup and some sambal oelek, wrap it in puff pastry and bake in the oven).

We ate them with baked beans.

As can be seen from the photo, they all opened up in the oven, but still tasted great.

For today's brunch I made banana pancakes, which we ate either with butter, maple syrup, peanut butter or nutella.

Tonight Sheryl made "Mexican Pizzas" (a Taco Bell copycat recipe) for dinner.

We ate them with guacamole and sour cream.

Sheryl also made margaritas to drink with dinner.

It was all lovely.

This morning I went to the Saphir bakery and bought croissants and a Rosinenschnecke (raisin Danish).

Sheryl bought a selection of cheeses while grocery shopping, although mostly we just ate the croissants with Obatzda.

Tonight, for dinner, I made a butter chicken, which we ate with garlic naan.

I was somewhat worried that it would taste weird because I noticed as I added the tinned tomatoes that they included Italian herbs that Sheryl had bought by accident, although in the end it tasted fine.

We had some leftovers in the freezer without a label. Sheryl was fairly certain that the bag contained meatballs in spicy tomato sauce.

I defrosted the leftovers early, so that if they turned out to be something else, I could make alternative plans for dinner, but Sheryl was right, so we had pasta (capellini) and meatballs for dinner.

I made cauliflower-cheese for dinner tonight.

We ate it with some home-made malt and walnut bread rolls.

Tonight I made an Olive Garden Salad, accompanied by a tuna pasta salad and home-made malt and walnut bread rolls.

It was yummy.

There was enough tuna pasta salad left over for me to have for lunch tomorrow.

Sheryl had another late meeting, so I ate without her.

I heated up a 4-cheeses pizza topped with tuna and capers.

Sheryl had a spinach pizza topped with feta and an egg, when she eventually got home.

For tonight's dinner we made Club Sandwiches, using turkey.

We ate them with salt and vinegar crisps (chips).

This morning Sheryl made us porridge (oatmeal to any American readers) with banana and pecans.

I had some brown sugar in mine; Sheryl had both brown sugar and maple syrup.

Sheryl finished at the gym rather too late to cook what we had planned, so we decided to go out for dinner to L'Angelo della Pizza.

Luckily, I was able to book a table; Saturdays are always busy.

We ordered a bottle of Nero D'Avola and some San Pelegrino.

For a starter we shared a beef carpaccio.

For her main course, Sheryl had the rigatoni quattro formaggi; I had the fettuccine scampi (which includes lobster in the sauce).

Everything was delicious.

We got talking with the couple sharing our table (a German guy and his Brazilian wife who turned out to be really nice) and had a great chat.

When we left the restaurant almost all the customers had left, and we got home quite late.

For today's brunch we made croque madame.

Very unhealthy, but so good!

For our regular curry evening I made cashew chicken (not strictly a curry, but nevertheless spicy), which I served with saffron rice and garnished with sesame seeds.

It was delicious, and we ate every scrap.

For tonight's dinner I made New England Clam Chowder, which we ate with some home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

It takes a long time to prepare the clam chowder, but it is always worth it.

There was enough left over to freeze for dinner another day.

For dinner tonight I heated up some frozen vegetarian chili, which I served with rice, sour cream and grated cheddar.

Tonight's dinner was spicy rigatoni vodka.

As usual, it was gorgeous.

Sheryl managed to buy some stewing venison at the supermarket on Saturday, so today I made a venison stew with dumplings for dinner.

It was absolutely delicious.

There was enough left over to freeze for another day.

For dinner tonight we made a cheesy spinach and mushroom puff pastry roll.

It was really good.

For today's brunch I made toasted sandwiches filled with goat-camembert and tomato; they were lovely.

We then shared a home-made malt and walnut bread-roll. I had crunchy peanut butter on mine and Sheryl had her usual creamy peanut butter, honey and cinnamon on hers.

For our dinner tonight Sheryl cooked chicken enchiladas verde, which we ate with sour cream and guacamole.

It was good, but needed more chili.

As usual when we have enchiladas, she made margaritas.

This afternoon Sheryl baked an apple bundt cake, for a birthday of someone at her work.

It looked and smelled great, and didn't stick to the pan.

For brunch today we had raw vegetables (carrots, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, radishes, a spring onion for me and some celery for Sheryl) and Jura cheese flavoured crisps/chips (not the really good ones from Muji, but a substitute brand), with French onion dip.

Although I was still sick, I felt up to cooking a quick and easy curry tonight.

I cooked a turkey and mushroom satay and rice.

Again, I thought it was great, but Sheryl found it too spicy.

This week I came down with the cold that knocked Sheryl for six last wee, so I really didn't feel up to cooking, so instead we went to Sushi Cent for dinner.

We shared a "Maki For All", a sashimi, a bottle of pinot grigio and a large sparkling water.

Sheryl had a late meeting at work, so we decided to have frozen pizzas for dinner.

I had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies and capers (pictured); Sheryl had a spinach pizza topped with an egg (she also wanted feta, but we didn't have any in the fridge).

I couldn't wait for Sheryl, and ate my pizza alone.

Today I made a batch (24) of malt and walnut bread-rolls, to have with the clam chowder that we have planned for tomorrow's dinner .

For tonight's dinner I cooked Pasta Cacio e Pepe.

Normally I cook it with linguine, but we didn't have enough linguine so I used a mixture of linguine and fettuccine (which, of course, had different cooking times, just to add to the fun).

I thought it was perfect, but Sheryl complained that it was too peppery (although lately she seems to be hypersensitive to all spices).

Tonight I cooked something new for dinner: orange chicken (based on a recipe from The Preppy Kitchen, on YouTube).

I served it with saffron rice.

It was good, and I will definitely cook it again.

For tonight's dinner I made mustard and tarragon chicken, and a Caesar salad. We ate it with some bread-rolls left over from our breakfast at the Backspielhaus (they always give you a big basket of bread-rolls and a paper bag to take home any that you don't eat).

There was a lot of Caesar salad dressing, and it was full of garlic. As usual, I made some dressing without anchovies, for Sheryl, and some with anchovies for me.

Peter, Georgina and Atanas arrived back in Munich from their trip to Canada this morning.

After collecting them from the airport, we took them to the Backspielhaus on Weltenburgerstraße for breakfast.

Peter and Georgina had the Italian breakfast, Sheryl had the American breakfast with scrambled eggs, and Atanas and I had the American breakfast with fried eggs.

It was lovely.

This evening I cooked pasta (capellini) Alfredo with broccoli.

It was lovely.

For today's brunch I made poached eggs on toast.

My second slice of toast had butter, marmite and cheddar cheese on it.

We were both hungry today, and each had a third slice of toast: mine with butter and marmalade, and Sheryl's with peanut butter, honey and cinnamon.

Tonight, for our regular curry evening, I cooked a beef madras, which we ate with garlic naan.

I had to make a special shopping trip to buy the beef, but I forgot to get mushrooms, so the curry was heavy on the sauce and light on solid contents.

I drank a Weißbier with dinner. Sheryl drank water and tea, because she still has a heavy cold.

For dessert we ate "spotted dick" with cream.

Tonight we really ran out of ingredients for cooking, so we got take-away burgers from the Hamburgerei.

Sheryl had her usual French burger, and I got an Argentinian burger, to which I added some goat-camembert and mustard at home.

We shared some French fries with truffle mayonnaise.

Today I made crumpets for our brunch.

Some we ate with butter, some with cheese and some with jam or nutella.

They were good, and we ate them all except one.

Tonight I cooked spicy rigatoni vodka, which was really great.

Tonight for dinner we ate the remaining pies from "Pie Me".

We shared a spinach and herb pie and a cauliflower cheese pie. They were both disappointing.

I cooked some sauté potatoes do go with the pies, which I managed to burn, so overall not a successful dinner.

Sheryl came down with a nasty cold today, and didn't go shopping as planned (she had a day of vacation today), so our meal plan went out the window because we didn't have the necessary ingredients.

Luckily, we had some pizzas in the freezer: Sheryl has a tomato and mozzarella pizza topped with tuna; I had a salami and pepperoni pizza.

This morning Sheryl made scones for our brunch: some cheese and some plain.

Normally she makes the cheese scones with Gruyère, parmesan and cheddar, but we had no Gruyère, so they were not quite as good as usual.

We ate the cheese scones with butter, and the plain scones with clotted cream and various jams.

After eating quite a lot at the Oktoberfest, we only had room for some cheese and crackers for dinner.

Today we went to the Oktoberfest (the Festzelt Tradition in the Old Weisn) for brunch.

You have to pay to enter the Old Weisn, but it is worth it because the beer is made to old recipes, and tastes better.

We each has a Maß (litre)of beer, and shared a giant pretzel and a Munchener Schnitzel (stuffed with ham and Obatzda, similar to a veal cordon bleu) and potato salad (German style, made with oil and vinegar rather than mayonnaise). We were both very impressed with te Schnitzel.

For dinner tonight I cooked Girasoli (similar to tortellini) filled with cheese (pecorino and ricotta) and pear. I served them in a mild (so that we would be able to taste the pear) cheese sauce.

They were a little disappointing (couldn't taste pear), but at least they didn't fall apart during cooking like the brand that Sheryl used to buy.

For dessert we ate a whole box of Antichi Dolci Di Siena (almond cookies) from Eataly. They are so good!

For today's brunch I made poached eggs on toast.

Tonight, for our regular curry evening, I heated up two frozen leftover curries (a butter chicken and a chicken badam pasanda), to make a thali, which we ate with garlic naan.

It was delicious; curries are often better after freezing.

I drank a Weißbier with my dinner; Sheryl drank red wine.

We recently ordered some frozen "Australian" pies from "Pie Me". Tonight we ate some of them.

For our main course we shared a beef, bacon and cheese pie, which was pretty good (although Sheryl said my Shepherd's pie is better) and a chicken curry pie (very bland - I wouldn't have known it was curry if not for the label on the box). I made some mashed potato to eat with the pies.

For dessert we shared an apricot, apple and almond pie, served with vanilla ice-cream, which was also good.

For tonight's dinner Sheryl made quesadillas (filled with home-made refried beans and grated cheese), which we ate with vegetarian chili, guacamole and sour cream.

I made an insalata caprese (salad of mozzarella, tomatoes and fresh basil), made with truffle mozzarella, and Sheryl bought a baguette.

We then shared a truffle pizza, topped with more of the truffle mozzarella (otherwise it is always too dry).

We decided to eat at home with our guests (Peter, Georgina and Atanas).

Peter helped me to make spicy meatballs in tomato sauce and pasta (capellini). Sheryl made a side-salad.

This evening we were at our Stammtisch (regular table) at the Armbrustschützenzelt (crossbow shooting tent) at the Oktoberfest.

Our tickets always include a starter platter to share, with various meats, cheeses and vegetables. We also shared a giant pretzel (or maybe two).

For my main course, I ate Käsespätzle (the German equivalent of Mac and Cheese), which came with a rather dull side salad. The Käsespätzle was extremely salty and not very cheesy. I don't know what Sheryl ate.

Tonight, for dinner, I cooked risotto with butternut squash, sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes.

I discovered that we didn't have enough risotto rice, so I instead used normal long-grain rice, which turned out OK.

As usual, we ate it garnished with chili flakes.

For diner tonight I made a salad, which we topped with tandoori prawns. We had home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls with it.

Sheryl had yet another late evening meeting, so I again joined her before her meeting for an early dinner at the Backspielhaus "La Farina".

This time we opted for pasta: for Sheryl a lemon linguine with spinach; for me a linguine carbonara.

Being a huge lemon addict, Sheryl was very happy with her lemon linguine; I was less impressed with my carbonara (my own is better, but I don't cook it at home anymore because Sheryl is not a fan).

Sheryl had another late evening meeting, so I joined her before her meeting for an early dinner at the Backspielhaus "La Farina".

Because it was so early (about 17:00) the restaurant was empty (there were still chairs on some of the tables when we arrived), which meant that we got good service.

Sheryl ordered a tuna pizza, and I ordered an anchovy pizza. We were both very happy with our pizzas.

Sheryl had an evening meeting, so I was on my own for dinner.

I fried some sausages and mushrooms, which I ate with baked beans on toast.

For dinner tonight I made Peking Duck and some sushi rice (which is just rice with a little white wine vinegar added).

It was delicious; duck is Sheryl's favorite meat.

Earlier, we would have had a little duck left over for my lunch the next day, but not this time.

For brunch today we defrosted some cinnamon rolls (a Cinnabon copycat recipe) which were frozen uncooked.

As usual, Sheryl made some cream-cheese icing (frosting to some of you) to put on top.

They were lovely.

Tonight I cooked pumpkin cappellacci stuffed with pumpkin and Parmesan, which Sheryl bought at a supermarket.

I made a different kind of sauce to usual: brown butter with sage and pecans, which worked our well.

For our brunch today I made scrambled eggs on toast. Sheryl had some arugula with hers.

For our regular curry evening I cooked a turkey satay and rice.

Sheryl had a late evening at work, and ate dinner with colleagues.

I went to the Hamburgerei and got a take-away: a burger, chips (French fries) and truffle mayonnaise.

Today I cooked a vegetarian chili, which we ate for dinner with tortilla chips, gated cheddar and sour cream.

For dinner tonight I heated up a spicy lasagna from the freezer.

It was a little dried out, but was still delicious.

Tonight I made a a salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and fresh figs), and Sheryl made baked feta in filo.

We also ate the rest of the garlic baguette.

It was lovely, but we baked the feta at too high a temperature, so it was a bit burnt and hard to cut.

For dinner tonight we made a cheesy mushroom and spinach puff pastry roll.

We had a bit of trouble with the puff pastry, which kept breaking breaking as Sheryl was making the roll, but it turned out great.

This morning I went across the street to the Saphir bakery to buy croissants. I used them to make bacon, egg and cheese croissants: a copy of something sold by McDonald's in the USA.

They were lovely: better than the McDonald's original, because the croissants were better.

For tonight's dinner I made the postponed baked feta and tomato pasta; easy and always good.

For brunch today I cooked crêpes, which we ate with berries (raspberries, strawberries and blueberries) and maple syrup.

As usual, Sheryl finished up with nutella on her last crêpe.

For our regular curry evening I cooked a butter chicken, which we ate with garlic naan.

This week's was especially good.

I heated up frozen pizzas for dinner this evening: a spinach pizza topped with feta and an egg for Sheryl; a salami and pepperoni pizza topped with an egg for me.

Today I and my cousin went to the Backspielhaus to celebrate our birthdays. I hadn't been there for ages.

The weather was good, so we sat outside.

My cousin had some kind of Greek breakfast, which she enjoyed.

I had eggs Benedict (served with crispy bacon and ham); it was nice, but I make it better.

There was a selection of bread-rolls, which were lovely; they provide paper bags to take home any that you don't eat.

The original plan for dinner was baked feta and tomato pasta, but we had no feta.

Instead I cooked spicy rigatoni vodka, which was lovely.

Tonight, for dinner, I made a salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, feta and avocado) with mustard and tarragon turkey, and heated up half of a garlic baguette.

For tonight's dinner I heated up the leftover salmon and leek quiche from yesterday's brunch, with some home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

We weren't really hungry after our large brunch, so we made do with a snack at the The Mathäser Cinema: Sheryl had nachos, and I had a magnum ice cream.

We were invited to Isabelle & Markus', our neighbours downstairs, for brunch. The original plan was to eat in the garden, but the wasps and ants were so bad that we had to move inside.

Our hosts provided bread, cheeses and fruit salad. We took a salmon and leek quiche, prosecco, and chocolate lava cakes (Sheryl came upstairs to bake the lava cakes once people had finished with the savory food, which took about 8 minutes).

My lava cake was presented with a birthday candle.

The adults ate their lava caked with cream and raspberries; the kids had theirs with vanilla ice cream instead of cream.

I received a birthday gift from Isabelle & Markus: a bottle of rye whisky. Markus, who has his birthday in a few days, got an Erdinger Weissbier glass engraved with his name from us.

Tonight, to celebrate my birthday (which is actually tomorrow) we went to dinner at Le Stollberg a French restaurant in the centre of town.

The weather was hot and dry so we were able to sit outside.

First there was a complimentary amuse-bouche.

For our starters we both had the duck foie gras, served on fried brioche, with balsamic strawberries, which was delicious.

Sheryl continued the duck theme with duck breast, served with green beans and beetroot.

For my main course I had calves kidneys in a sauce, served with polenta, black lentils and green beans, which was fantastic (not everyone's taste; I couldn't get Sheryl to even taste it!).

For dessert, Sheryl opted for the chocolate lava cake (despite having prepared exactly the same for brunch tomorrow - hers is better than the restaurant's); I had crème brûlée with a side of mango sorbet and passion fruit. My crème brûlée was very disappointing (stale), but the mango sorbet was outstanding.

We drank a bottle of Amarone with dinner. One of the reasons that I like this restaurant is that they sell wine from all over, not just from France.

For today's brunch I cooked poached eggs, served on home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For our regular curry evening we raided the freezer to make a thali: turkey satay and beef madras, which we ate with garlic naan.

We have finally restocked our freezer, so we were able to have Dim Sum for dinner.

For tonight's dinner I made pasta al Arabiata, which was lovely.

We still had no penne, nor even tortiglioni, so I again used Rigatoni.

Tonight I made an Olive Garden salad, which we ate with egg salad and home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

Sheryl bough some cod (not my favourite fish) for dinner. We coated in in curry powder and fried it. I made mashed potato, corn on the cob and tartar sauce to accompany the cod.

I really didn't enjoy the fish, but Sheryl was quite happy, especially as I got all the bones in my portion.

For dessert we had Gü cheesecakes; unfortunately, we can no longer get the really good one with salted caramel (Sheryl wrote to Gü to complain), and these were nowhere near as good.

For today's brunch Sheryl made scones: some plain and some with cheese.

We ate the cheese scones with butter; for the plain ones, Sheryl ate hers with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and I ate mine with clotted cream and blueberry jam (pictured).

Tonight we heated up frozen enchiladas verde from the freezer. We ate them with sour cream and guacamole.

For brunch today I made scrambled eggs, which we ate on burger buns.

Tonight I cooked a risotto with butternut squash, sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes.

Normally we garnish it with some chili flakes, but this time we used tajin (a recent experimental purchase). Neither of us were impressed with the tajin, so it will probably get thrown away.

Tonight we made vegetarian burgers (using "Beyond Burgers"); as usual, Sheryl had a brioche burger bun and I had a malt and rye bun. I cooked some chips (French fries) to go with them.

For dessert we had leftover bread and butter pudding.

Tonight we heated up some frozen pizzas for dinner.

I cooked pasta with zucchini, mint and ricotta for dinner.

The only tube-pasta we had in stock was rigatoni, which is really too large for this dish.

For dessert I made a bread and butter pudding.

For our dinner tonight I made a salad, and Sheryl made feta wrapped in filo pastry with fenugreek drizzled with honey.

For brunch today I made waffles, using the waffle iron attachments in our sandwich toaster.

We ate them with strawberries, blueberries, maple syrup and whipped cream (from a can).

They were OK (not great - we really need a proper waffle maker, but we don't have anywhere to store it).

The can of whipped cream was almost empty, so it didn't work well.

For dinner tonight I cooked scallops with beluga lentils in a mild curry sauce (something we first had at a Greek restaurant in Köln/Cologne).

It was lovely.

For today's brunch I made crêpes, which we ate with fruit (raspberries, blueberries and banana) and maple syrup.

For our regular curry evening I cooked a beef madras, which we ate with garlic naan.

It was delicious; I doubled the amount of green chilis, and used less cayenne pepper, and reduced the spiciness by adding an extra spoonful of mango chutney.

Today was Sheryl's first day back at work, so I joined her at Catwalk for lunch.

Sheryl had a salad with thin slices of beef (it look like carpaccio, but the beef was cooked); I had a salad with baked goat cheese (unfortunately with loads of arugula, which I hate).

For dinner tonight Sheryl made Mexican pizzas (a Taco Bell copycat recipe). They were very tasty, but also very filling (we couldn't finish them).

Today I made poached eggs on toast for brunch.

Sheryl had Feldsalat (lamb's lettuce) with hers.

Tonight we met Jonathan and Tracy for dinner at Fuyuan.

We had a selection of Dim Sum for starters.

For main courses, Sheryl had Peking Duck, Jonathan had another duck dish, Tracy had a beef dish and I had the spicy chicken.

Everything was great except for my chicken, which was very fatty and gristly.

For today's brunch Sheryl baked cinnamon rolls (a Cinnabon copycat recipe), and made some cream cheese frosting (icing) to top them with.

She was worried that they hadn't risen properly, but they turned out fine.

Tonight's dinner was cauliflower cheese, which we ate with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls (to mop up the cheese sauce).

For dessert I ate the last of the nectarine crumble, with cream, and Sheryl ate ice cream.

For our brunch today I made toasted cheese (mature cheddar) and Branston pickle sandwiches.

Tonight I made a salad (lettuce, lamb's lettuce, cucumber, tomato, avocado and figs), which we ate with feta baked in filo pastry with fenugreek and drizzled with honey, and home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

This afternoon I baked a batch (24) of malt and walnut bread-rolls.

Two were saved for this evening's dinner, and the rest were frozen.

For today's brunch I made blueberry pancakes.

Sheryl ate hers with maple syrup; I ate mine with butter.

For dinner tonight we made turkey club sandwiches, which we ate with Jura cheese flavoured crisps (chips).

For dessert I made a nectarine crumble. Sheryl ate hers with ice cream and I ate mine with cream.

Sheryl made porridge (which Americans call oatmeal)for brunch today. We ate it with nuts (pecans), banana, brown sugar and maple syrup.

For dinner I cooked spicy rigatoni vodka.

It was really good and very spicy.

For our brunch today I made a Bavarian breakfast: Weißwurst (white sausage), pretzels, Obatzda, radishes and sweet mustard.

We drank alcohol-free Weißbier (wheat beer) with it.

For our regular curry night I made butter turkey, which we ate with garlic naan.

It was pretty spicy, so we had ice-cream for dessert.

Brunch today was leftover scones and some banana muffins that Sheryl made recently to use up some overripe bananas.

For dinner tonight Sheryl made cheesy chicken and Jalapeño rolls, from a recipe that she found on the Internet.

They look like spring rolls, but the flavour is more Mexican than Chinese.

The rolls were good, but we weren't so impressed with the dip, and will probably make a different dip next time we cook them.

For brunch today Sheryl made scones: some cheese (cheddar, parmesan and Gruyère) and some date scones.

We ate the cheese scones with butter; the date scones with clotted cream and fig jam.

They were delicious, even though they were a little overdone.

After our very heavy brunch we were not very hungry at dinner time, so we just had cheese and crackers and some salami sticks.

The plate pictured has sambal smeerkaas that we bought in the Netherlands. We had some bacon flavoured TUC crackers, which go really well with the sambal smeerkaas; unfortunately, we can't currently buy any more of those crackers.

Today we went shopping to the local mall (Das Einstein). While there we went to Ke Bazza for brunch.

Sheryl had a wrap with falafel, cheese and hummus; I had a doner kebab with chicken and cheese.

Both were great, although then we were stuffed.

Tonight neither of us felt like doing any real cooking, so we heated up a couple of frozen pizzas for dinner.

Sheryl had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with tinned tuna and red onions; I had a salami and pepperoni pizza topped with red onions.

Sheryl cut up the red onion, which is why the chunks of onion are so badly sliced.

After returning from our day out shopping, Sheryl went to Hamburgerei to get take-away burgers fries (chips) and truffle mayonnaise.

The burgers were lovely, but very messy to eat.

We were at the outlet shopping mall at Ingolstadt Shopping Village, so we ate brunch at the Indochine Restaurant.

We ate outside.

We shared a selection of Dim Sum, and then shared a duck a mango salad.

The Dim Sum was nice; the duck (one of our favourite meats) was terrific, but the mango was not ripe.

Today I cooked a lasagne for dinner.

It was lovely.

As usual, I made two: one to eat today and one to freeze for later. Unfortunately, I had broken one of the dishes that I usually use for lasagne, and had to use a slightly larger one, so I made extra pasta, using 3 eggs, but it was only just enough.

To offset the amount of meat we have eaten recently or are about to eat, we had raw vegetables (carrot, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, radishes and spring onions) and crisps/chips with French onion dip for brunch.

Sheryl found another brand of Jura cheese flavoured crisps in a supermarket, but they were nowhere near as good as the Muji brand, so we will go back to buying them at Muji.

For tonight's dinner we cooked salmon baked in pesto with green beans, cherry tomatoes and mashed potato.

It was lovely.

For today's brunch Sheryl made French toast, which we ate with berries (mainly strawberries, plus a few blueberries), maple syrup and whipped cream (from a can).

For our weekly curry evening I cooked a turkey and mushroom satay and rice.

For brunch today we had croissants with cheese (goat brie and sambal smeerkaas), and shared a Rosinenschnecke (Danish pastry).

Sheryl also finished off her grapefruit.

For tonight's dinner I cooked pasta (capellini) Alfredo with broccoli.

It was wonderful, although I wouldn't have minded more sauce.

For dinner this evening I cooked a risotto with mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes, which we garnished with chili-flakes.

Mushroom risotto is my least favourite risotto (I much prefer butternut squash or asparagus), but this one was extremely good and we ate every scrap.

Dinner tonight was am insalata caprese, tuna pasta salad and the last of my home-made malt and walnut bread rolls (I need to bake some more). Normally, insalata caprese is made with tomatoes, basil and mozzarella, but this time I used burrata. We agreed that it is way better with proper buffalo mozzarella.

My plan was to eat the leftover tuna pasta salad for brunch tomorrow, but we forgot to put it into the fridge, and it had to be thrown away the next day.

I made an omelette (filled with spring onions, mushrooms,tomatoes and goat brie) and and hash browns for dinner tonight.>

It was lovely.

For dinner tonight we (always a joint effort) cherry tomato galette. It got a little burnt, but still tasted great.

For dessert Sheryl made a big batch of individual cheesecakes, mainly to take to work, for the staff. We ate a double-sized one for dessert (this one topped with caramel toffee).

For brunch today I made crumpets.

We ate them with either butter, marmite and butter, cheese or jam.

Tonight Sheryl made chicken enchiladas verde (one to eat and one for the freezer) which we ate with sour cream and guacamole.

Sheryl noticed that she can no longer find the green chili (sambal) that she uses in the enchiladas verde, so I don't know what we will do when the last jar is empty.

For today's brunch I made poached eggs on toast.

Sheryl also had half a pink grapefruit (I can't eat grapefruit because I take statins), and had Rukola (rocket/arugula which I hate) with her eggs.

Sheryl had a late meeting at work, so we had something quick and easy for dinner: frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had a spinach pizza topped with feta and an egg; I had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies and capers.

For our evening meal tonight I cooked Cacio e Pepe, garnished with cheese (a mixture of pecorino and parmesan) and cherry tomatoes.

It was, as always, delicious.

Tonight's dinner was a vegetarian chili from the freezer, which we ate with blue-corn nachos, grated cheddar, guacamole and sour cream.

The nachos were extremely salty.

For dinner tonight I made a green salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and feta - unfortunately, no avocado, because both our avocados were rotten), topped with tandoori chicken (or maybe it was turkey) and served with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For dessert we ate more of the plum crumble.

I finally found a fish (other than salmon and cod) which Sheryl will eat without complaining about the bones.

I bought some Mahi Mahi filets at the supermarket. I knew we both liked Mahi Mahi because we had it in New Zealand a few years back, although it is only occasionally available here in Germany.

I braised the fish in white wine, and served it with mashed potatoes, green beans and home-made tartar sauce. It was very tasty, and completely without bones.

For dessert I made a plum crumble, which we ate with cream.

For our brunch today we made croque madame. It was so delicious!

Tonight we had our regular curry evening, deferred from yesterday.

We had papadams with chutneys as a starter.

For the main course I made a beef Madras, eaten with onion kulcha (although I forgot to take a photo of the mains).

For brunch today I made banana pancakes (with cinnamon, of course).

Sheryl ate hers with maple syrup, and later with nutella; I ate mine with butter, and later with peanut butter.

I was meant to make a curry tonight, but I was not feeling well (exhausted, and reduced appetite), so we heated up some frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had a mozzarella and tomato pizza, and I had a salami and pepperoni pizza (which I couldn't finish).

For tonight's dinner I cooked Singapore style sweet and sour prawns with rice.

The sauce could have been a little more tasty (more sweet and more sour).

For dessert we had some Gü salted caramel cheesecakes.

I cooked pasta (tortiglioni) with zucchini, mint and ricotta for tonight's dinner.

It was, as always, lovely.

For dinner tonight I made Peking Duck, served with sushi rice sprinkled with sesame seeds.

We hadn't had this for ages, and really enjoyed our dinner.

This evening we were out to see a play (see my News Blog), so we had dinner at Zum Franziskaner.

Sheryl had veal pieces in a wine sauce, with potato cakes and green asparagus; I had fiery red sausage with sauerkraut and mashed potato.

Both dishes were great (my sausages were really spicy).

For dinner today we made fish (cod, in beer batter) and chips. Sheryl made Hush Puppies and some kind of sauce as well.

I made some tartar sauce for the fish.

The fish was excellent; the chips (French fries - twice fried) were also good. The Hush Puppies were bland.

For our brunch today I made scrambled eggs.

Sheryl at hers on a brioche burger bun; I ate mine on a rather stale bread roll.

Our visitors had more of the same as they had yesterday, for breakfast; Sheryl and I had something at a café in the shopping mall later (not very good).

For dinner tonight we went to L'Angolo Della Pizza.

We started off at a table outside, but the weather got very stormy so we moved inside.

Georgina ordered the spaghetti mare; Atanas ordered the Spaghetti Amatriciana; Sheryl ordered the Pizza Parma; I ordered the Pizza Diavolo; Peter ordered the Pizza L'Angolo with some chili oil (he likes his food spicy, but the chili oil was too mild, so the waiter brought him some chilis).

For dessert, both Sheryl and Georgina had the regular profiteroles; Atanas had the white chocolate profiteroles, and I had the panna cotta.

We had two bottles of red wine (Montepulciano), two bottles of white wine, and lots of water, with dinner. We also received complimentary glasses of averno.

It was a great evening, and everyone was stuffed (and a little drunk) by the end.

Peter went to the Saphir bakery and bought croissants and bread rolls for breakfast. We had various cheeses, salami and ham in the fridge.

Our friends Peter, Georgina and Atanas arrived today from Prague, for a short visit.

For dinner we went out to the Dalmatiner Grill (a Croatian restaurant close to home).

Sheryl had the fried calamari with fries; I had the stroganoff with rice; Peter had a mixed grill (loads of meat - there may be some vegetables buried under all the meat); Georgina had Zander (pike-perch) filet with boiled potatoes; Atanas had a schnitzel with fries.

We drank some Croatian white wine with dinner, and some slivovitz after the food.

As usual, the service was excellent, as was the food.

We discovered that we had a can of Mexican pulled pork, so we decided to make soft-shell pulled pork tacos for dinner.

They weren't very good.

For tonight's dinner I cooked pasta (fusilli) pesto. Sheryl made the pesto with pistachios, which worked well.

I served the pesto with cherry tomatoes and parmesan.

Sheryl was late getting home from work, so we decided to go out for dinner.

We went to Sushi Cent.

We ordered a platter of sashimi, and a platter of maki (which is cooked).

I forgot to take a photo until we were done.

Tonight we cooked a cheesy mushroom and spinach puff pastry roll.

For some reason, Sheryl has a real blind-spot with this recipe, and usually forgets to add the cheese. Normally, she is able to open the roll, add the missing cheese, and reseal it, but this time it was impossible, so we put the cheese on top.

I made crêpes for our brunch today. We ate them with berries (blackberries, blueberries and strawberries) and maple syrup.

Our regular curry evening was on Saturday this week.

Sheryl made us Painkiller cocktails, and I made a butter chicken, which we ate with naan bread.

For dessert we had some so-called canoli.

For our brunch today I made poached eggs.

Sheryl had her eggs on a brioche burger bun, with arugula; I had mine on toast (without arugula).

Sheryl had a late meeting this evening, so we opted for something quick and easy for dinner: frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had her usual spinach pizza, topped with some feta; I had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies and capers.

For tonight's dinner I made pasta (capellini) and meatballs in spicy tomato sauce, using the frozen meatballs from the last time I made meatballs.

There were a couple of meatballs left over, for my lunch later in the week (this time I did remember to actually put them into the fridge).

For dinner tonight I made an Olive Garden salad and a tuna pasta salad. I served them with burger buns.

For dessert we had some more of Sheryl's lime and coconut tarts.

After dinner I carefully put the leftover tuna pasta salad in a container for putting into the fridge. I discovered it the next morning, sitting on the kitchen counter without the lid on, so I guess I will not be eating that for lunch in the week.

For dinner tonight I cooked tortellini stuffed with truffle and ricotta, in a spicy tomato sauce.

It was good, but yet again several of the tortellini separated while cooking, despite my being extremely careful not to cook them too vigourously. I think we need to find a different brand of tortellini.

For dinner tonight we made chorizo burgers and chips (French fries).

They were so good!

There was enough of the ground beef and chorizo mixture to make four patties, so I will be eating burger patties for lunch in the coming week.

Sheryl made scones for today's brunch: some with cheese (parmesan, cheddar and Gruyère), and some plain.

We ate the cheese scones with butter, and the plain ones with clotted cream and jams.

Tonight we made bean tacos.

Sheryl also made us margaritas to drink with dinner.

For dessert we had some long awaited lime and coconut tarts. On Sheryl's first attempt she discovered that she didn't have enough limes (the recipe uses a lot!), so she froze the tart cases. On her second attempt she made a mistake with the recipe, and had to discard the filling. Finally, attempt #3 worked. Most of the tarts will be taken to work, for Sheryl's team.

For brunch today we ate some of the Sambal Smeerkaas with some croissants (from the Saphir bakery, of course).

We also shared a Rosinenschnecke (raisin Danish).

For our weekly curry evening I cooked a turkey badam pasanda.

We ate it with onion kulcha (Indian bread).

For our dinner tonight I made a salad of lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, Feldsalat (lamb's lettuce) avocado and feta. I also cooked some mustard and tarragon chicken. We ate it with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

Tonight I cooked a mushroom and artichoke risotto for dinner.

We garnished it with chili flakes.

I had no appetite this evening, so I didn't eat, and Sheryl had a pizza.

We had arranged to meet Susan, Adam and Camilla for lunch. at the Café Brasserie Meuwese

Susan doesn't eat gluten, and was also on a vegetable diet in preparation for for a juice detox, so she had only salad and hot vegetables.

Sheryl had a Dutch pancake (very touristy) and I had a gorgonzola and mushroom omelette.

For dinner we went to the Seafood Bar on Spui.

Sheryl and I shared the cold seafood tower; Eleanor and Raymond shared the mixed seafood grill; Janet had a salad with seafood (salmon, I think).

Everyone else seemed happy with their food, but Sheryl and I found grit in some of the bivalves, and the razor clams didn't taste as good as they should.

We had delicious Dim Sum for lunch at Oriental City.

We had various dishes including:

• Spicy Wantons (everyone said this was right at their spiciness limit),
• Some very gelatinous Dim Sum,
• Some sweet cakes which looked like pieces of wood.

The first thing that Sheryl did once we were checked into our hotel yesterday was to go shopping for some Sambal Smeerkaas.

She found two different brands, so she bought both so that we could compare. Today, we tested out or purchases at the hotel breakfast.

To be honest, there was no difference between the Albert Heijn brand and the Goudkuipje brand.

For dinner tonight we were at Zaza's.

First there were complimentary appetiser bits (photo to the left).

I had scallops served with a caramelised onion tart for my starter (photo to the right), as did someone else in our group. Raymond had the Confit of Suck Leg.

My main course was Guinea Fol (photo below left). I don't remember what Sheryl's main course (photo below, centre) was. Eleanor had the veal.

I had room for a dessert: panna cotta filled with chocolate pudding. It was excellent.

We all had an excellent meal, with great service.

Once we were complete, we headed to the market on Albert Cuyp Straat for a street-food lunch.

Eleanor and I had Loempias with hot sauce.

Sheryl had the food in the photo to the left; some kind of seafood, I think.

We all had freshly made Stoop Wafels.

Most of us had ice-cream.

Finally, 3 of us had beer (Witbier), and the others had soft-drinks.

I never got around to getting any herring.

While waiting for the rest of our party (my daughter Eleanor, her partner Raymond and my sister Janet), Sheryl and I had our first Dutch Cappuccini of the trip.

Cappuccino are always so good in the Netherlands!

Today we flew to Amsterdam for a few days.

We decided to eat brunch at Käfer in Terminal 2.

We both had the Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad, which was good; it seemed like the whole restaurant ate the same thing.

I had some difficulty cooking the quick and easy dinner that we had planned: Penne Al Arabiata. I discovered that we had no chilis in the freezer. Instead I cooked some truffle tagliatelle and heated up a jar of Käfer truffle and tomato sauce.

Sheryl loves corn on the cob, which is in season at the moment.

We decided to have the corn with sausages wrapped in bacon. There were not many sausages, so we each had a fried egg with our sausages and corn.

Sheryl had a late meeting, so we had something quick and easy for dinner.

I heated up two frozen pizzas: a spinach pizza topped with feta and an egg, for Sheryl, and a salami and pepperoni pizza, topped with an egg, for me.

Tonight for dinner we made feta baked in filo pastry, flavoured with fenugreek and sesame seeds, and served with some honey on top, served with a green salad and home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

I got in trouble for forgetting to add avocado to the salad.

Today I made meatballs (a big batch so I was able to freeze half for another day).

I served them with capellini (thin, quick cooking spaghetti) and a spicy tomato sauce.

I added some cumin and some fennel seeds to the meatballs.

It wa excellent.

Today I made blueberry pancakes for brunch. I even remembered to add cinnamon.

They were good, and extra fluffy.

For our dinner tonight Sheryl made quesadillas (refried beans and cheese), which we ate with some vegetarian chili (from the freezer), guacamole and sour cream.

It tasted great, but for some reason the refried beans were wetter than usual, which made the quesadillas soft, so it was difficult to pick them up once there was chili on them.

For brunch today I made toasted sandwiches with mature cheddar and branston pickle.

For our regular curry evening, I raided the freezer to make a thali (beef madras and butter chicken), which I served wit rice.

For tonight's dinner I cooked pasta (penne) with mint, zucchini and ricotta.

This evening, Sheryl was late home from work because of a late meeting, so I heated up some frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had her usual of a spinach pizza topped with feta and an egg; I had a quattro formagi topped with anchovies and capers.

For our evening repast I cooked sea bass braised in white wine, served with kohlrabi and home-made tartar sauce.

I think I am going to give up cooking real fish for Sheryl. The sea bass was cooked just right, so that the flesh came easily off the bones (which were left attached to the skeleton); I even filleted Sheryl's fish for her, like in some restaurants. Even so, she complained bitterly about bones in the fish, and wasted a lot. From now on, only pre-filleted fish (salmon, or tuna or swordfish steaks) for her.

For tonight's dinner I made a Caesar salad with mustard and tarragon chicken, which we ate with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

As usual, I made two batches of Caesar salad dressing: one without anchovies, for Sheryl, and the other with anchovies, for me. There was a lot of dressing (I used three egg-yolks), although it could have had more garlic.

It was really delicious.

Tonight I cooked Fleischpflanzerl (a meat patty made with minced beef and pork, known as Frikadelle in Northern Germany), mashed potatoes and sweet corn.

The Fleischpflanzerl were great (I added some fennel seeds, like in Italian sausage), although one of them broke up on serving.

Sheryl wanted corn on the cob, but couldn't find any, so ended up buying corn in a jar (not the usual canned brand), which was dreadful.

Tonight I cooked baked feta and cherry tomato pasta (Uunifetapasta).

It is so easy, and always tasty.

For our brunch today we treated ourselves to Eggs Benedict with Bacon, served on home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

It was lovely, but too unhealthy for every day.

I ate my second bread-roll with some butter and marmite; Sheryl had peanut butter, honey and cinnamon on hers.

For our weekly curry evening I cooked a turkey satay, served with rice.

This one was especially good.

I cooked a spicy pasta vodka (made with a mixture of rigatoni and tortiglioni, because we didn't have enough rigatoni

It was gorgeous!

This evening I cooked a vegetarian chili (it was vegan until we put the cheddar cheese and sour cream on top), served with rice.

It was really good.

For tonight's dinner I cooked a risotto with green asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes.

It was so delicious!

For dinner tonight I made pasta (fusilli) pesto, made with green (basil) pesto.

I served it with some cherry tomatoes, and, of course, some parmesan garnish.

Sheryl used pistachios in the pesto, which was a nice variation.

For tonight's dinner we made a green salad with feta wrapped in filo pastry and baked.

We ate it with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For brunch today I made toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches: one made with the last of the Halvarti cheese from last night's dinner, and one made with Gruyère.

For dinner we tried something new: chorizo burgers. using a recipe Sheryl found online.

The buns were some of the last batch of home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls; the burger patties were a mixture of beef mince, chopped chorizo, chopped jalapeño pepper and cumin powder; there was also a sauce made with Halvarti cheese, bechamel sauce and jalapeño pepper; there was a layer of sliced avocado.

They were excellent, and we will definitely make them again.

For brunch today I made poached eggs on toast.

The second attempt to deliver our new fridge/freezer was successful, so we decided to use the frozen chicken enchiladas verde that were already partly defrosted.

We ate them, as usual, with sour cream and guacamole.

They were lovely.

For tonight's dinner we made hard-shell tacos with fake meat.

We were missing a couple of ingredients, and the fake meat was a brand we hadn't tried before, but the tacos were nevertheless good.

Today is a public holiday in Bavaria, so Sheryl was at home for brunch.

I made crumpets, which we ate with either butter, cheese or jam.

They worked very well this time: they didn't stick to the pan, and they were full of holes as they are meant to be.

Tonight we made a cheesy mushroom and spinach puff pastry roll.

For dessert we had some so-called canoli that Sheryl bought today.

Because we were expecting the delivery of our new fridge/freezer tomorrow (sometime between 08:00 and 14:00) we wanted to have a dinner that didn't create much washing up, and that used something from the freezer.

I defrosted and heated up a lasagne.

Tonight, for dinner, I cooked pasta (tortiglioni) with mint, zucchini and ricotta: quick, easy and always tasty.

For dinner tonight we made a cherry tomato galette.

For some reason I had a lot of trouble rolling out the pastry (probably because I over-chilled it, and because it was too dry). but I managed it eventually, and the galette was great.

We usually have a little of the galette left over, which I eat the next day for brunch, but today we finished it all.

For today's brunch Sheryl made two kinds of scones: cheese scones and plain scones.

We ate the cheese scones with butter; we ate the plain scones with clotted cream and jam.

They were great.

Our regular curry evening was on Saturday this week.

I made a Beef Madras. I made it a little less spicy this time, so we decided to eat it with naan bread.

It was lovely.

For our brunch today we ate raw vegetables and crisps/chips (Jura cheese crisps from Muji) with French onion dip, in an attempt to compensate for the amount of meat we have been eating lately.

For dinner we heated up two frozen 4-cheeses pizzas, which I topped with Italian sausage.

They were lovely; this is Sheryl's favourite kind of pizza.

For dinner Sheryl made spicy chicken wings; I made a green salad to eat with the wings, and we had some home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls that I made in the afternoon.

The chicken wings were not a success (the breadcrumbs fell off); when Sheryl made them before, they were good, but she has since lost the recipe.

The salad was also not great for some reason, but at least the bread-rolls were good.

Today we went shopping at Das Einstein shopping mall.

Before the shopping, we had lunch at Ke Bazza, in the mall.

We ate doner kebabs: mine with chicken and cheese; Sheryl's with falafel, humus and cheese.

They were excellent.

Tonight I heated up the leftover salmon and asparagus quiche for dinner (but still no potatoes!) for dinner.

For dessert we ate some more of the chocolate brownies.

For dinner we again went our, this time to our favorite local Italian restaurant: L'Angelo Della Pizza.

Sheryl had assured me that we wouldn't need to reserve a table, because most people were out of town for Whitsun. She was wrong, and we only just got the last available table.

We shared a starter of beef carpaccio, with some bread to mop up the olive oil and balsamico.

For our main courses, Sheryl ordered her usual rigatoni quattro formaggi (four cheeses - sorry, no photo).

I ordered the tagliatelle scampi in lobster sauce. In fact, it was more than just lobster sauce; there was a large chunk of lobster tail on my plate. It was delicious, and I will definitely order it again.

We drank a bottle of Nero d'Avola and a bottle of sparkling water with our dinner.

The service was fast and friendly, as always, and we had a great evening.

Today we went out for brunch to the Rischart Café on Marienplatz.

We shared a Flammkuchen (a German pizza - very thin), with goat cheese and honey. It was excellent.

After a pause, we shared a plate of Kaiserschmarrn (pancake pieces normally served with fruit purée or jam) with apricot jam, It was nice (we have had better).

For tonight's dinner I made a quiche with salmon and green asparagus.

It was really good.

Normally, we eat quiche with sautéd potatoes, but Sheryl forgot to buy potatoes.

For dessert we ate some of the chocolate brownies that Sheryl made a couple of days ago.

Sheryl has the week off work, so we will be having different food for our brunches than I would have if I was alone.

Today she made us French toast, which we ate with berries (blueberries and strawberries) and maple syrup.

Sheryl also had some pieces of pecan nut on some of her French toast; I tried the same, but the nuts all fell of as I tried to eat the French toast, so I gave up on that idea.

Sheryl made chicken enchiladas verde for our dinner tonight. She also made us margaritas.

We ate the enchiladas with sour cream and guacamole (bought). They were lovely.

I made crêpes for our brunch today, which we ate with berries (blueberries, blackberries and strawberries) and maple syrup.

Sheryl, of course, had to finish up with a crêpe with nutella on it.

For tonight's dinner I made Spicy Rigatoni Vodka. We ate it with some Italian sausage (which we recently discovered in our local supermarket, so Sheryl doesn't need to make it herself anymore).

It was delicious.

I seem to have finally perfected the recipe for the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka (you can read it here).

For brunch today I made scrambled eggs (properly scrambled, not like what you get in hotels and restaurants) on toast.

For this week's curry evening I made a thali with some frozen leftover curries: a butter chicken, a chicken badam pasanda and a turkey satay.

We ate the thali with some onion kulcha that we had in the freezer.

For dessert we ate some treacle puddings that we ordered online a long time ago (they needed to be used up) from a supplier of English goods. We ate them with some cream.

Tonight I cooked an asparagus risotto. I also added some sun-dried tomatoes; I planned to also add some artichokes, but the jar had gone mouldy.

We ate the risotto with some chili flakes sprinkled over it.

The risotto was awesome (we ate every scrap), and I definitely want to cook it again before the asparagus season ends.

Tonight we decided to go out for dinner. We went down the road to Sushi Cent.

We ordered our usual: a Bogenhausen platter (a selection of sushi and sashimi), and an Unagi Temaki (a hand roll with eel), plus a bottle of pinot grigio and a bottle of sparkling water.

For some reason, we received two of the Temaki (they charged us for both). Sheryl will not eat eel, so I ate both, and we were then not quite able to finish the rest of the meal.

The meal was lovely, and service was, as usual, fantastic, but prices keep creeping up (and not just due to the extra Temaki).

Sheryl had a late meeting, so we ate late. We opted for something quick and easy for dinner: frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had her usual spinach pizza, topped with some vegan fake feta (which doesn't melt in the oven); I had a salami and pepperoni pizza.

Tonight I made a Caesar salad, which we ate with mustard and tarragon chicken and a baguette with garlic butter from the supermarket (not as good as home made garlic butter).

As usual, I had to make two batches of Caesar salad dressing: one with anchovies, for me, and one without, for Sheryl.

For our dinner tonight I made a spicy lasagne (a lasagne bolognese with sambal oelek added to the bolognese) with the last layer of mascarpone.

I had some trouble making the pasta: it was too dry, and I had to make a second batch. Nevertheless, it was gorgeous.

We had some more of Sheryl's mini coconut key lime pies for dessert.

For today's brunch we made croque madame.

As always, they were delicious.

Tonight Sheryl had a caving for Mexican food, so she made us Mexican "pizzas" (a Taco Bell copycat recipe).

Instead of the usual margaritas, she made us painkiller cocktails (the recipe is on the cup, or here).

The Mexican pizzas were the best she has yet made (moist, due to there being lots of sauce, guacamole and sour cream).

For dessert Sheryl had made some mini coconut key lime pies, some of which we ate topped with whipped cream. They were excellent; I will try to add the recipe to my recipes page, soon.

For today's brunch we had avocado on toast. The avocado was surprisingly good.

Sheryl, as usual, ate hers with malt vinegar and "everything but the bagel" seasoning; I ate mine with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper.

Tonight I cooked linguine Cacio e Pepe, which I served garnished with some cherry tomatoes (and grated pecorino and parmesan cheese, of course).

It was outstanding!

For dessert we had some canalés, given to us by our neighbour Isabelle.

As expected after our brunch today, we were not very hungry for dinner, so we just had some cheese and crackers this evening.

Sheryl found a new flavour of Tuc crackers at the store (bacon flavour); they were awesome!

Today we went for brunch with our neighbours Isabelle and Markus, and their children Erik and Ann Sophia, to the Hofbräukeller beer garden.

Markus, Sheryl and I drank some beers; Isabelle and the kids drank sparkling water.

We had a couple of plates of Obatzda and some giant pretzels. Isabelle order some sausages for her family. We ordered a couple of Fleischpflanzerl with potato salad to share.

We found a table close to the playground, so the children were able to occupy themselves while we chatted.

Tonight we met our friends Jonathan and Tracy for dinner at the Indian Village restaurant.

We had a lovely time.

We ordered vegetable samosas and onion bhajis to share between all four of us, as starters. There were also some papadams.

As mains, Sheryl ordered lamb palak (spinach), and I ordered chicken bhoti masala; I don't remember what Jonathan and Tracy ordered.

There was some rice, but mostly we ate naan bread with the main courses.

Everything was fantastic!

We stayed very late; I apologised to our waiter for keeping him so long after closing time.

Tonight I cooked cauliflower cheese, which was lovely.

We like to eat this with some bread-rolls (to mop up any extra sauce), but we were out of my home-made rolls, so I bought some Semel (Bavarian for bread.roll) at a local bakery; they were dreadful.

For tonight's dinner we made club sandwiches (with turkey instead of chicken).

We ate them with some balsamic vinegar crisps/chips.

Dinner tonight was crab cakes (made by Sheryl), home-made tartar sauce (made by me) and salad (also made by me).

For brunch today Sheryl heated up some cinnamon rolls (a Cinnabon copycat recipe) that were in the freezer from last time she baked cinnamon rolls.

We ate them with cream-cheese icing (frosting).

They were lovely.

After the comedy show we went looking for dinner, and ended up at the Wirtshaus Zur Brez'n. This is somewhere that I went often when I first came to Munich, but , wow, it has gone downhill since then. We won't be going back.

Sheryl had some sausages (Nurenberger Bratwust) with sauerkraut and a pretzel (the Bauernbrod that they usually serve with this is rye bread, to which Sheryl is allergic).

I had Käsespätzle (a German take on Mac and Cheese), served with a salad. I drank a Weißbier with my food.

My Käsespätzle was lukewarm, and not very good.

Sheryl's sausages were better, but the sauerkraut gave her indigestion and the pretzel was rather stale (surprising, since Brez'n means pretzel).

The service was not great (we had to wait ages to pay) and Sheryl's red wine was also not very good.

That whole area near Munchener Feiheit has gone to seed. At every establishment there are lots of tourists, and people to whom being seen is more important than the quality of food and service.

For this morning's brunch I cooked poached eggs on toast.

The eggs were perfect this time: the yolks were runny and the whites perfectly cooked.

For our regular curry evening I cooked Thai chicken ramen.

For tonight's dinner I cooked baked feta and cherry tomato pasta.

It was especially good this time.

Tonight I heated up some frozen dim sum: some glutinous rice balls, some shau mei, some gyoza, some yakitori sticks, some leek dumplings, some breaded prawns and and a BBQ pork bun for me.

For our brunch today, Sheryl made scones: some with cheese, and some with dates (eaten with clotted cream and fig jam).

As usual, they were lovely.

I cooked salmon poached in white wine, mashed potatoes (flavoured with a little nutmeg), sweetcorn and home-made tartar sauce.

The frozen salmon has been getting smaller by the month, over the last couple of years, so the salmon pieces were tiny. Also, we only had a small can of sweetcorn.

Nevertheless, it was very tasty.

Tonight for dinner, I cooked truffle tortellini in mushroom sauce.

There were not many mushrooms, so there was less sauce than usual, but it was still lovely.

For tonight's dinner we made puff pastry rolls with Parma ham, Gruyère cheese and green asparagus.

They were, as always, delicious.

For brunch today Sheryl went to the Saphir bakery across the street and bought croissants and a pain au chocolat to share.

We ate the croissants with a selection of cheeses.

Tonight we had invited our neighbours Ushi and Pascale, and Pascale's boyfriend Andi, for a curry evening.

For starters I made some prawn pakoras, and we bought some vegetable pakoras and samosas from the nearby Swagat restaurant. My prawn pakoras were very small (I bought the wrong sized prawns), but were good, and were all eaten (there was a little of the bought starters left over).

For our main course I made a butter chicken, a chicken badam pasanda and some turmeric rice. We also had lots of naan bread and onion kulcha, also bought from the Swagat.

For dessert I made a large rhubarb and strawberry crumble, with a choice of vanilla ice-cream or cream to go with it.

Sheryl was concerned that, after the starters and curries, the heavy dessert would be too much, but there was only enough left for Sheryl and I to have for dessert one day later in the week.

I was worried that the butter chicken would be too spicy for our guests, but it was fine, and everyone had at leat a second portion.

We had told Pascale that they could bring their dog (Wanda) with them. She was beautifully behaved the whole time (except for her penchant for chewing up wine corks).

It was a really fun evening.

For brunch today I made toasted sandwiches: one with mature cheddar and Branston pickle and one with goat camembert and tomato. We shared the toasties.

This afternoon/evening, Sheryl had a work event with her team, with tapas and drinks, so she wasn't really hungry at dinner time.

She brought me a take-away burger (a Spanish burger - the special of the month) from the Hamburgerei Zwei, and a portion of chips (French fries) and truffle mayonnaise for each of us.

The burger was lovely, although very messy to eat.

Tonight I heated up frozen pizzas for dinner.

Sheryl had a mozzarella and tomato pizza (for a change from her usual spinach pizza), topped with an egg, and I had a salami and pepperoni pizza, also topped with an egg.

Tonight, for dinner, I heated up the last of the vegetarian chili from the freezer.

We ate it with rice, grated cheddar and sour cream.

Tonight I cooked pasta (capellini) with prawns and asparagus.

Sheryl had dinner with the other people in her group of her training course, so I was on my own for dinner.

I made myself an omelette, which I ate with a burger bun.

For some reason half of the cheese (goat camembert) fell out of the omelette as I was serving it, but was still lovely.

For our dinner tonight Sheryl made corned beef rolls, and I made an Olive Garden Salad.

Sheryl wrapped the corned beef rolls differently this time, so they look more like Cornish pasties than rolls, but they still tasted great.

For today's brunch I made banana pancakes. I remembered to add cinnamon this time.

Sheryl ate hers with maple syrup (then nutella on the last two); I ate mine with butter (then peanut butter on the last two).

In the break during the ballet we tried something new: we had booked at the Restaurant Ludwig Zwei (owned by Käfer).

The usual routine is that, during the interval, everyone head for one of several bars, where they wait a long time for a drink which then has to be guzzled down in the limited time remaining.

We, in contrast, went to our reserved table (although it took a bit of effort to find out our table) to find our drinks and dessert waiting. We will definitely do this again next time we go to the ballet.

Sheryl ordered a red wine (Nero D'Avolo) and a sparkling water, and I ordered a gin and tonic (with ice in a separate glass). We shared a dessert of a raspberry tart, which was very good.

Before the ballet tonight we went, as usual to Zum Franziskaner for dinner.

Despite the restaurant being very busy, service was very quick, and we finished dinner with about an hour to spare.

Sheryl had a veal schnitzel. Normally this is served with rye bread, to which Sheryl is allergic, so she got chips (French fries) instead.

I ordered a pice of grilled filet of beef, which came with (white!) asparagus Hollandaise sauce and boiled potatoes.

Sheryl drank a red wine (Merlot) and a sparkling water; I drank a Weißbier.

Sheryl's schnitzel and chips was very good.

My asparagus and potatoes were also good, but my filet was only mediocre: there were several pieces of gristle in the meat (unheard of in a filet), and it was not particularly tasty. I think the beef came from a cow that died of old age.

For our brunch today I made scrambled eggs (properly scrambled, not like the stuff you get in restaurants and hotels which is more like an omelette).

I ate mine on toast, and Sheryl ate hers on her last brioche burger bun.

We then tried eating a mango that we bought a few days ago, but part of it was already rotting, and the rest wasn't properly ripe and tasted of nothing, so we put it in the bin (garbage).

For our weekly curry evening I cooked a Beef Madras and turmeric rice.

Sheryl told me that it was right at her limit for spiciness. I thought it was perfect.

For dessert we ate some Aunty's brand "spotted dick" (a type of steamed pudding with raisins) that we have had in storage for a while (needed to be eaten up). We ate it with cream.

For tonight's dinner I heated up the leftover turkey pot-pie. I did not make braised cabbage after the complaints last time.

Sheryl had a very late meeting at work, so we had something quick and easy for dinner: pizzas from the freezer.

Sheryl had her usual spinach pizza, topped with feta, red onion and an egg; I had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies, capers and red onion.

Tonight for dinner I made a turkey pot-pie.

We had some white cabbage left over from the slaw we made with the fish tacos on Saturday, so I made some braised cabbage. I added some caraway seeds (a standard ingredient in cabbage salad and sauerkraut) for flavour, but it seems that Sheryl really doesn't like them.

Tonight we made vegetarian burgers, using "Beyond Burgers", served with Chips (French Fries).

For tonight's dinner we cooked a cherry tomato galette. The tomatoes look a little burnt, but it tasted fine.

For dessert we ate some more of the Limoncello Tiramisu.

After we had finished going round the "Dali Spellbound" exhibition, we got brunch at Rosi's on Rosenheimer Straße.

It was very busy, but we were able to get a table. Service was a little slow because of the number of customers, but that was only to be expected.

We both ordered cappuccinos (yes, I know, the plural of cappuccino is actually cappuccini) and the Amerika breakfast, which includes a juice of your choice (we chose orange juice).

The eggs (more like omelettes than scrambled, as in virtually every restaurant and hotel) and bacon were good, as was the bread; the pancakes (covered in berries) were dreadful (cold, dry and hard - they tasted like they were cooked 3 hours earlier) and were served with some weird nougat sauce rather than maple syrup.

Even so, we had a nice meal, and the service was friendly.

For tonight's dinner we made fish (salmon) tacos. The soft-shell tacos were filled with the chipotle-marinaded fish, slaw, radishes, avocado creme and feta.

The tacos were gorgeous!

Sheryl made us margaritas to drink with dinner.

For dessert Sheryl made limoncello tiramisu, using some of her home-made lemon curd. We each had two bowls of the dessert.

We had some of a loaf of brioche bread leftover from when Sheryl made French toast recently, so we decided to recreate something that Sheryl had at a restaurant: paté (duck and truffle) on fried brioche.

It was delicious (although very unhealthy). I discovered that brioche is very hard to fry (it goes from underdone to burnt in seconds).

I had some mustard on mine; Sheryl didn't.

We went out to Sushi Cent (2 minutes walk from our apartment) for dinner.

Tonight for dinner I cooked a turkey redang and rice.

Sheryl was quite late home from work, so the curry was cooked too long, causing the sauce to separate, although it still tasted great.

I had an Unagi Temaki (a hand roll with fresh-water eel), and we shared a Bogenhausen Platter (a mixture of sushi and sashimi), a bottle of Pinot Grigio and a bottle of water.

It was all lovely, although eating out has become very expensive over the last 4 years.

For dinner tonight I cooked cashew chicken and rice. We served it garnished with sesame seeds.

We haven't had this for a while, and both really enjoyed it.

Tonight Sheryl cooked quesadillas, filled with home-made refried beans and cheddar cheese, which we ate with guacamole, sour cream and a vegetarian chili that I cooked this afternoon.

For this evening's repast I cooked pasta pesto (using pesto that Sheryl made yesterday), which we garnished with some cherry tomatoes and parmesan.

For dinner tonight we made a cheesy mushroom and spinach puff pastry roll. This was a team effort, where my most important roles were to cook the mushrooms and spinach, and to remind Sheryl to put in the grated cheese before sealing up the puff pastry, which she usually forgets.

For today's brunch I made crumpets.

They turned out very well this time: they rose well and didn't stick.

We ate some with cheese and marmite, and some with jam (strawberry for Sheryl and blueberry for me).

Our regular curry evening was shifted to Saturday this week.

I cooked a turkey badam pasanda, which we ate with garlic naan.

For dessert we ate some more of the rhubarb and strawberry crumble.

For brunch today we had toast: Sheryl's with goat camembert and Parma ham; mine with cheddar cheese and Branston pickle.

I made a risotto with butternut squash, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes for dinner. We ate it garnished with chili flakes.

Rhubarb season has started, so I made a dessert of strawberry and rhubarb crumble/cobbler. Sheryl ate hers with vanilla ice-cream, and I ate mine with cream.

Today the weather was great, so, as Sheryl was on vacation, we went downtown the the Schneider Bräuhaus for brunch. We sat at a table outside.

We each drank a Weißbier (wheat beer): for Sheryl a Tap #1 (a lighter version) and for me a Tap #7 (original). Part of Sheryl's plan was to buy some more Love Beer (a Weißbier with passion fruit), but due to renovations at the brewery it and several other beers were unavailable.

For food, Sheryl ordered some Obatzda and a pair of Weißwurst (white sausage), and I ordered Fleischpflanzerl and potato salad (Bavarian style, with oil and vinegar instead of mayonnaise).

Weißwurst is normally eaten with sweet mustard, but at the Schneider Bräuhaus it has too much horse radish added for Sheryl's taste, so she stopped off at supermarket down the street to buy some without horse radish. Now, at home we have two open jars and a tube of sweet mustard.

The hot dishes were both delicious, but the Obatzda wasn't as good as usual.

For dinner tonight I used up the last of the leftover roast duck (of which there was lots) to make a Gröstl: potato, meat, and vegetables fried up together and served with a fried egg on top.

For our brunch today, Sheryl made French toast (made with brioche bread), which we ate with blueberries and maple syrup.

For dinner tonight I made a salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and feta - no avocado because both the avocados were rotten), topped with leftover duck, with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For dinner we didn't feel like any serious cooking, so I heated up two frozen pizzas: for Sheryl a spinach pizza topped with red onion and feta; for me a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies and capers.

For today's brunch we had toast: Sheryl had goat camembert with Parma ham and apricot jam; I had cheddar cheese and Marmite.

Because we had brunch with Isabelle and Markus on Easter Sunday, we moved out Easter dinner to today.

As a starter to eat while the main course was cooking in the oven, we had a few devilled eggs with some prosecco (Sheryl is very allergic to Champagne).

For our main course I cooked a roast duck with stuffing (bread, mushrooms, dried figs and Italian sausage), roast potatoes and carrots, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and gravy (made with red wine, mustard and some hot sauce - none of that gravy from a packet in our house).

We both managed a second plate of the main course, but then were totally full.

With dinner we drank the second bottle of Amarone wine that I bought in December, which was outstanding.

To counterbalance the unhealthy eating yesterday, and the even more unhealthy dinner tonight, we had a healthy brunch: raw vegetables (carrot, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, radishes, for Sheryl celery and for me spring onions), crisps/chips and French onion dip.

As usual, after our substantial brunch we didn't feel hungry enough for a full dinner this evening.

Instead, we had cheese and crackers, and some leftovers from brunch.

This morning we had an invitation downstairs to Isabelle and Markus' for brunch.

We made some baked eggs with bacon and cheese; some puff pastry bundles with Parma ham, Gruyère and asparagus; and some carrot cup cakes (some decorated to look like the tail-end of bunnies burrowing into the cup-cake).

Isabelle and Markus provided bread, cheeses, some smoked salmon and fruit salad.

There was prosecco, water and coffee.

Their kids, Erik and Ann Sofia, both went straight to the cup cakes, only having bread later.

We all ate well, and had a good chat about various topics.

Both we and Isabelle and Markus, were caught out by the clocks going forward last night, giving us an hour less for preparing food.

Tonight I cooked truffle pasta with tomato and truffle sauce.

We really enjoyed it.

For today's brunch I made eggs Benedict, served on home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls, and bacon.

Sheryl had to ruin hers with Rucola (arugula/rocket).

For our Friday curry evening I cooked a turkey satay and rice.

I had a break from cooking this morning; Sheryl made cinnamon rolls (copycat cinnabons), served with cream cheese frosting.

They were excellent. There were enough to freeze for another day.

Tonight, for our dinner, I cooked fish fingers (fish sticks) with mashed potato and sweet-corn.

I made some tartar sauce to go with the fish (it is difficult to get Sheryl to eat fish without it). I flavoured the mashed potato with a little grated nutmeg.

Tonight I cooked spicy rigatoni vodka.

It was good, but not as good as the first time I cooked it. So much for fine-tuning the recipe!

Tonight for dinner I heated up the frozen leftover New England clam chowder; we ate it with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For dessert we had the rest of the pear crumble/cobbler: mine with cream and Sheryl's with vanilla ice-cream.

For our dinner this evening we heated up the leftover chicken enchiladas verde, which we ate with sour cream and guacamole.

For dessert I made a crumble (cobbler) using pears, an apple and a couple of plums that needed to be used up. I ate mine wit cream, and Sheryl ate hers with vanilla ice-cream.

For dinner I made a Caesar salad. Normally, I put croutons in a Caesar salad, but this time I served it with home-made bread-rolls (the last of the sourdough rolls, plus some malt and walnut rolls). I made some mustard and tarragon turkey to top the salad with.

Caesar salad dressing is supposed to contain anchovies, which I love but Sheryl hates, so I made two batches of dressing (one with anchovies and one without).

The salad was really great, and we ate every scrap.

For dessert we ate some of the cheesecake, topped with home-made lemon curd which Sheryl made yesterday, which was delicious. Sadly she took the leftover cheesecake to work for her colleagues, so I won't get any more of it until she makes another.

The plan for brunch was that I should cook blueberry pancakes, but Sheryl decided to make a cheesecake which was still in the oven when I needed to make brunch (I need the oven to keep the pancakes warm while I cook more).

In the end we decided to have toasted sandwiches: one with goat camembert and tomato, and one with cheddar and Branston pickle, which we shared.

Sheryl went out for dinner and drinks with an ex-colleague, so I was on my own for dinner.

I took the lazy option and heated up a frozen 4-cheeses pizza, topped with anchovies and capers.

I tried a couple of slices with hot sauce, but the pizza had enough of a kick with the anchovies, and I ate the rest without hot sauce.

For brunch today I made poached eggs served on home-made sourdough bread-rolls.

I cooked a beef madras for tonight's dinner, served with rice flavoured and coloured with turmeric.

It was excellent, now that I have all the right ingredients, and am getting the recipe down.

For today's dinner I made a New England clam chowder, which we ate with home-made malt and walnut bread -rolls.

It was fantastic: thicker than last time.

I bought a bottle of pecorino white wine to drink with dinner.

For dinner tonight I heated up the rest of the frozen leftover vegetarian chili, which we ate topped with sour cream and jalapeños, with some rice.

Tonight I made an Insalata Caprese, served with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For our main course we shared a truffle pizza, topped with the rest of the mozzarella from the salad.

Dinner tonight was penne with ricotta, zucchini and mint.

Sheryl had made a trip to Eataly and brought some ricotta, which didn't cream so well as our usual supermarket brand, which is why the sauce looks a little curdled, but still tasted great.

Sheryl made porridge (or oatmeal, as she insists on calling it) with nuts (pecans and walnuts) and brown sugar. Sheryl also had some maple syrup on hers.

Tonight I heated up two leftover curries from the freezer (a butter chicken and a turkey satay) to have as a thali, eaten with naan bread.

Today I baked malt and walnut bread-rolls.

These are Sheryl's favourite bread rolls; they are good with savoury and sweet toppings, whereas the sourdough rolls are best with savoury things.

For brunch today we made ourselves Croque Madame.

So unhealthy, but so delicious!

For tonight's dinner I cooked a risotto with butternut squash, sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes. We at it garnished with chili flakes.

While I was cooking, Sheryl made us painkiller cocktails, served in the beaten copper mugs that we received as a Christmas present from Sheryl's sister Becky.

For our brunch I went across the street to the Saphir bakery and bough croissants and a Rosinenschnecke (raisin Danish).

We ate the croissants with cheese: some goat camembert, some truffle brie and some cheddar.

For tonight's dinner Sheryl made chicken enchiladas verde. We ate them with sour cream and guacamole.

They were really good.

For dessert we ate some almond cookies that she bought at Eataly.

For our brunch today I made toasted cheese (mature cheddar) and Branston pickle sandwiches.

For tonight's dinner I heated up the leftover beef stew from the freezer, and made some mashed potato to go with it.

Sheryl wasn't sure that the potatoes would work with the stew (normally we eat stew either with dumplings or bread-rolls), but she was happy with it when it was served.

Tonight I cooked pasta cacio e pepe (sheep cheese and pepper). I served it garnished with some halves of cherry tomato and a mixture of parmesan and pecorino cheese.

It was, as usual, fantastic. It is amazing that something so simple and with so few ingredients tastes so good.

For dinner tonight I made a green salad, which was topped with tandoori prawns and eaten with the last of our burger buns.

Tonight I cooked omelette (one, to share) and hash browns.

The omelette was filled with spring onions (green onions), mushrooms, tomato and goat camembert.

It was delicious.

The asparagus season has started, so tonight for dinner I cooked pasta (a mixture of tagliatelle and fettuccine) with prawns, green asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes, which is something we have been craving for a while.

It is my favourite pasta dish, and we both really enjoyed it.

This morning, for our brunch, I cooked blueberry pancakes.

Sheryl ate hers with maple syrup, and I ate mine with butter. We both had peanut butter on our last pancakes.

After seeing the movie (Dune: Part Two) this afternoon we went to Fuyuan, a Taiwanese restaurant nearby, recommended by our neighbour Isabelle, for dinner (we had reserved a table).

We started with a couple of dishes from the Dim Sum menu: Shao Mei (huge and very tasty) and fried fish filets with sesame seeds (delicious).

We then ate Peking duck: lots of meat, and the restaurant's own Peking duck sauce. It was so much better than when we make Peking duck at home.

We each drank a couple of glasses of Montepulciano red wine and some sparkling water with dinner.

Everything was gorgeous (the second best Dim Sum that we have ever eaten), which is presumably why there were so many Taiwanese or Chinese customers there.

We will definitely go there again.

For brunch today I made poached eggs served on burger buns.

We were still hungry after that, so we ate some toast: Sheryl's with peanut butter, honey and cinnamon; mine with butter, marmite and cheddar cheese.

Tonight was our regular curry evening.

We started with some papadams/poppadoms which we ate with hot lime pickle, brinjal (aubergine pickle) and mango chutney.

Our main course was a butter turkey with garlic naan.

For dessert we had mango sorbet and lemon sorbet drizzled with a little vodka.

All in all, a great meal.

For tonight's dinner we made vegetarian burgers, using "Beyond Burgers".

Sheryl's burger contained a burger patty, goat cheese, fig preserve and lettuce in a brioche bun.

My burger contained a burger patty, soft blue cheese, mustard, a slice of tomato, lettuce and mayonnaise in a rye and malt bun.

We ate them with a pack of Jura cheese crisps/chips from Muji; the best and cheesiest crisps ever.

Tonight Sheryl cooked salmon baked in green pesto with green beans and cherry tomatoes. I cooked some kohlrabi to go with it.

It is always terrific, although the pieces of salmon were tiny!

Tonight I made a green salad. Sheryl made feta baked in filo (with fenugreek, olive oil, honey and sesame seeds). We served it with burger buns.

Sheryl had left a post-it note on the feta to ensure that I didn't use it in the salad as I did a week ago.

Tonight we went for something quick and simple for dinner: I heated up two frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with tuna and red onion. I had a salami, ham and mushroom pizza topped with red onion.

For dinner tonight I cooked a beef stew with dumplings. We wanted to have a venison stew, but were unable to find venison anywhere.

The stew was flavoured with herbs (oregano, thyme, basil and tarragon), a beef stock cube, sambal oelek, mustard, red wine, tinned tomatoes and aceto balsamico.

The dumplings were flavoured with herbs (thyme and oregano) and spices (coriander and cardamom).

It was so good!

There was enough left over to freeze (except for the dumplings, which we mostly ate, and don't freeze well) for another meal.

Sheryl made scones for our brunch today.

She made cheese scone, eaten with butter or goat camembert, and date scones, eaten with clotted cream and fig jam.

They were, as ever, delicious.

For dinner tonight we had a selection of Dim Sum from the freezer: glutinous rice balls wit peanut filling, shao mei, leek dumplings, pork gyoza, breaded prawn sticks, yakitori sticks, and for me, a barbecue pork bun.

For today's brunch I ate the leftover starters from the Indian Village: a small piece of samosa and two onion bhajis.

Sheryl felt that her stomach couldn't handle more spicy food, so she had toasted brioche bread with nutella and peanut butter. She also had a little of the Schmalz (dripping/lard) that Ushi gave us after dinner there.

We couldn't decide what curry I should cook for our regular curry evening, so in the end we decided to go out.

We went to the Indian Village, which has the best reviews of any Indian restaurant in Munich. We had been planning for a long time to go there with Jonathan and Tracy, who live close to the restaurant. Jonathan and Tracy were out of the country, so we went without them.

Sheryl had samosas to start (first checking that they contained no fresh paprika); I had onion bhajis. Both starters were excellent. This was the first time I had eaten proper onion bhajis in years and I was very impressed; Indian restaurants in Germany usually serve onion bhajis that are flat and taste quite different.

For our main courses, Sheryl ordered a murgh palak (chicken and spinach), and I ordered a jheenga (prawn) jalfrezi. Rice is included, but mostly we ate the garlic naan that we ordered.

We drank a bottle of Tempranillo red wine with dinner.

The meal was altogether outstanding: the food, the service and the decor (there was only one of the typical Indian "artworks" on the wall, and the rest of the decor was tasteful and pleasant). The meal was not cheap (we spent €127, plus a generous tip), but not bad for a gourmet dinner.

I wanted a whiskey after dinner, but they don't have any nice whiskeys, so I had a glass of the rum that our waiter recommended, which was really nice.

We will definitely go again soon, probably as soon as Jonathan and Tracy return from their vacation.

For tonight's dinner I cooked Medaglioni (similar to tortellini) stuffed with ricotta and truffle (bought ready made) served in a mushroom and truffle sauce.

Tonight I heated up some frozen pizzas for dinner.

Sheryl had her usual spinach pizza topped with red onion, feta and an egg. I had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies, capers and red onion.

For dessert we had some of the roulade (Swiss Roll) that our neighbour brought back from a business trip to Singapore.

Tonight we had planned to have a salad with baked feta in filo pastry. Unfortunately I messed up, and used the feta (we only had one pack) in the salad (we usually put feta in our salads, and I was running on automatic), so we had to have something different.

We decided on a green salad and a tuna pasta salad, served with bread rolls, which was good.

There was enough tuna pasta salad for Sheryl's lunch the next day.

For dinner tonight I cooked Tiroler Gröstl (you can find many recipes online, although mostly in German, and all a little different).

My Gröstl contained potatoes, sausages, spring onions (green onions) and snow peas (baby pea pods).

Gröstl is traditionally a dish made with leftovers. It is similar to the "bubble and squeak" eaten in England, but with more meat.

We ate it, as per tradition, with a fried egg on top.

It was lovely.

For dinner tonight I cooked something new: Spicy Rigatoni Vodka (from a recipe I found on the Internet).

We had no rigatoni, so I used penne instead.

It turned out very well, and once I have fine-tuned the recipe I will add it to my recipes page.

For dessert we had another experiment: Cannoli Siciliani. We both found them a little dry (the cases are crispy), and will probably not buy them again.

Sheryl made French Toast for today's brunch.

We ate it with berries (strawberries and blueberries) and maple syrup.

Tonight I was on my own for dinner, because Sheryl was out with colleagues and ex-colleagues for cocktails and food.

I cooked myself some sausages, poached eggs, mushrooms and toast, which I greatly enjoyed.

For our brunch today I made scrambled eggs, which I served on English muffins.

For our regular curry night I made a Beef Madras, which we ate with rice. It was the best Beef Madras yet.

I drank a Weißbier (Schneider) with mine.

For tonight's dinner I heated up the leftover Shepherds Pie.

Tonight I cooked Cauliflower Cheese, which we ate with some home-made sourdough bread-rolls (to mop up any excess cheese sauce).

It was excellent.

For tonight's dinner I cooked a Shepherds Pie.

Every time I cook a Shepherds Pie it is a little different, with variations of flavourings and vegetables, but it is always good.

As an experiment, Sheryl bought some ready made barbecue ribs (from Käfer) on Saturday. Tonight we ate them with a tomato and red onion salad, potato salad and home-made sourdough bread rolls.

The best that I can say is that they were OK. We had hoped that the ribs would be nearly as good as those we get at the Rusticana restaurant (after all Käfer is a premium brand); they were not, although they were at least very tender.

Also, our attempt to recreate the tomato salad that they serve at the Rusticana was not entirely successful.

The potato salad, however, was excellent.

Tonight I cooked a risotto with butternut squash, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes.

We ate it garnished with chili flakes.

It was lovely.

For our brunch Sheryl had half of a grapefruit (I can't eat grapefruit because of the statins that I take, which is so unfair).

I then made toasted cheese (mature cheddar) and Branston pickle sandwiches.

I finished off with a mandarin, and Sheryl had a slice of toast with honey and cinnamon.

Tonight we were invited to our neighbours Ushi and Pascale's apartment for a Bavarian dinner. Pascale's boyfriend Andi was also there.

For starters there was a soup of cream and a little vinegar, containing sausages (Bratwurst) and garnished with chives. There were slices of baguette to eat with the soup. I have no idea what it is called, but it was delicious.

We took a couple of bottles of Amarone, which is currently my favourite wine. I was unable to get two of the Masi Amarone, so the second bottle was another brand of Amarone (still good, but not quite as good as the Masi).

Also on the table was a jar of Schmalz (dripping) cooked with apple, which we snacked on with slices of baguette before the main course.

The main course was a slow roasted rack of pork, which was served with Knödel (Bavarian dumplings), gravy and purple carrots (the carrots look like purple cabbage - they were lovely). Everything was so tasty, and the pork was incredibly tender.

After a pause, during which a third bottle of wine (a Merlot) was opened, we had dessert: Bavarian cream (Bavaroise - one of my favourite desserts) served with berries and a berry sauce.

After dinner Pascale, Andi and I drank a few glasses of whisky (Laphroaig, provided by Andi, and then 16-year-old Jura that I took). Meanwhile Ushi and Sheryl had Limoncello (Sheryl said it was better than the Limoncello that we had at home, which she brought back from Rome).

We had a wonderful time, and were stuffed afterwards.

Ushi gave us her second jar of Schmalz with apple to take home, which was very kind of her.

Knowing that we would be having a meat-heavy dinner tonight, we had a vegetarian brunch of raw vegetable (carrot, mini-tomatoes, radishes, plus celery for Sheryl) and crisps/chips (Jura cheese flavoured) with French onion dip.

For our regular curry evening I cooked a turkey and mushroom satay, with rice (to which I added a little paprika powder).

For dessert we had the last of Sheryl's cheesecake with caramel and chocolate ganache.

Tonight we had a vegetarian meal, after my meat overload yesterday evening. I cooked penne al Arabiata; quick, easy and tasty.

For dessert we had some more of Sheryl's cheesecake with caramel and chocolate ganache.

We went out for dinner today, since it was Valentine's day.

We had glasses of pink prosecco at home before dinner, and then went to Sushi Cent for our meal.

I had an Unagi (a hand roll containing cooked freshwater eel) as a starter. Sheryl ordered some sushi and some sashimi (which includes a bowl of rice). For my main course I had duck donburi, which also includes a bowl of rice.

It was all delicious, although I had trouble finishing the mountain of meat in my main course.

Tonight Sheryl made quesadillas (filled with cheddar cheese and home-made refried beans), which we ate with some vegetarian chili from the freezer, jalapeños, guacamole and sour cream.

It was nice that I didn't have to cook for a change.

Tonight's dinner was very easy to prepare. I heated up the frozen New England Clam Chowder from a few weeks ago, and some home-made sourdough bread-rolls.

For today's dinner I made a green salad topped with tandoori prawns and home-made sourdough bread-rolls.

Sheryl made a cheesecake (topped with caramel and chocolate ganache). It tasted great, but the layers tend to fall off when served.

Today, for our brunch, I made eggs Benedict, served on English muffins, with bacon.

Because we went to the ballet last night, we had our curry evening today. I heated up two frozen curries: a butter chicken and a chicken badam pasanda. We ate them with naan bread.

For our brunch today I went across the street to the Saphir bakery and bought croissants and a Rosinenschnecke (Danish pastry).

We ate the croissants with a variety of cheeses.

Because we were going to the ballet tonight, we had an early dinner at Zum Franziskaner with Isabelle and Markus.

I had steak tartar, which is served with rye bread. Sheryl is allergic to rye, so she ordered Pommes/chips/French-fries and gave me her bread. Isabelle ordered a cheese platter, and Markus ordered trout (served with boiled potatoes and salad).

Sheryl drank red wine (a Merlot) with her food; I drank Weissbier (wheat beer); Markus drank Helles (lager); and Isabelle drank water.

The steak tartar was good. Markus' trout looked perfectly cooked; the bone separated easily and cleanly from the fish.

We all enjoyed our dinner.

Sheryl bought some tortellini, stuffed with ricotta and artichoke, for dinner. I made spicy tomato sauce to go with it.

Tonight, because of a meeting, Sheryl was very late home (we ate at about 20:20), so we needed something quick for dinner.

I heated up two frozen pizzas. Sheryl had a spinach pizza topped with feta, red onion and an egg; I had a salami and pepperoni pizza topped with red onion and an egg, with some coleslaw on the side.

Tonight I cooked sausages, sauerkraut and potato salad for dinner. It was lovely.

The potato salad was German potato salad, made with oil and vinegar rather than the mayonnaise that is more common in Britain and the US. I much prefer the German version.

Tonight I cooked a vegetarian chili (chili sin carne) and rice, which we ate with sour cream and grated cheese.

The chili was actually vegan, until we added the cream and cheese.

After our substantial brunch, we weren't very hungry this evening, so we had some cheese (cheddar, Gruy&egrve;re and soft goat-cheese) and crackers for our evening meal.

This morning we were invited downstairs by Isabelle and Markus for brunch.

I cooked a quiche (like a quiche Lorraine, but with leek instead of red onions, and with mushrooms added). It proved very popular, especially with their son Erik.

Sheryl made some chocolate and raspberry macarons (not to be confused with macaroons, which I like much more than macarons), which were also gobbled up.

Isabelle and Markus provided a selection of bread, gravad lax, a lovely cheese platter and fruit salad.

We took presents for the kids: a belated Christmas present for Erik, and birthday and Christmas presents for Anne-Sophia. I am not sure whether Erik looks so pleased because of the food (he ate a lot of quiche) or the present.

For tonight's dinner I cooked cordon bleu (bought from Vinzenzmurr), sweet corn and chips (French fries).

This morning for brunch I made crumpets.

As usual when we eat Mexican food, Sheryl made margaritas.

The plan for today's brunch was banana pancakes, because we had some very ripe bananas to use up. Unfortunately I forgot to add the raising agent (baking powder) and had to make another batch of pancakes, this time with blueberries, since there were no more bananas.

For our weekly curry evening I cooked turkey redang and coconut rice.

For dinner tonight I cooked an omelette to share, and hash browns.

For dessert Sheryl had bought some frozen mini-eclairs. They were nowhere near as good as the ones Sheryl makes (a two day process), and were made worse by still being a bit frozen when we ate them.

Today I cooked New England Clam Chowder, which we ate with burger buns.

It was, as usual, delicious.

For our evening meal I cooked spaghetti (actually capellini) Alfredo with steamed broccoli.

For our dinner tonight I cooked Peking Duck. We hadn't had this for ages, and really enjoyed it.

As usual I cooked some sushi rice to accompany the Peking Duck, eaten with a sprinkling of soy sauce and sesame seeds.

I bought a different brand of pancakes to wrap the duck and vegetables, and they were very difficult to separate; they were either overcooked or undercooked.

For dinner I made a green salad, and Sheryl made baked feta in filo pastry (with honey and fenugreek).

For this morning's brunch Sheryl made us scones: some plain and some cheese (with cheddar, parmesan and Gruyère).

The cheese scones were extremely cheesy, so we ate them just with butter. The plain scones were eaten with clotted cream and jam.

Tonight we made vegetarian burgers (Beyond Burgers).

We ate them with crisps (chips to any American readers); I also had some coleslaw on the side.

For dessert we had Gü cheesecakes.

For our brunch today I made poached eggs on toast.

Sheryl had her work Christmas dinner tonight, so I was on my own for dinner.

I heated up a frozen chicken badam pasanda and a naan bread.

For tonight's dinner I heated up two frozen pizzas: a spinach pizza topped with feta and red onion for Sheryl, and a salami and pepperoni pizza with red onion and an egg for me.

Tonight I cooked penne with zucchini, mint and ricotta.

For our dinner tonight we made Salmon en Croute (stuffed with cream cheese and spinach), which we ate with kohlrabi.

They were huge, and neither of us could finish it all, but it was very tasty.

For tonight's dinner I cooked a risotto containing butternut squash, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes.

It was excellent, even though we forgot the chili flakes.

For dessert we had some more of the chocolate lava cakes (they keep in the fridge for up to 3 days before being cooked).

Today we went to the Museum Lichtspiele cinema to see "Napoleon" (which was rather disappointing).

Afterwards we had dinner at Beef Crew. We both had bacon cheese burgers and shared a portion of chips (French fries).

For brunch today I made crêpes, which we ate with berries and maple syrup.

The crêpes turned out better than my last attempt.

For tonight's dinner Sheryl made quesadillas (filled with cheese and home-made refried beans), which we ate with guacamole and sour cream.

Instead of the usual margaritas, she made painkillers, using the coconut cream that we bought in Chicago.

For dessert Sheryl made a batch of 6 chocolate lava cakes (enough for 3 days); today's were a little undercooked, and so slightly runny, but still tasted great. Sheryl ate her dessert with berries and ice-cream; I ate mine with berries and cream.

For today's brunch I bought croissants and a Rosinenschnecke (raisin Danish pastry) from the Saphir bakery across the street.

We ate the croissants with a selection of cheeses (some runny gorgonzola for me, and some truffle brie for Sheryl), and shared the Danish pastry.

It was fantastic.

Tonight I cooked a selection of dim sum from the freezer.

Tonight I cooked salmon braised in white wine, with sweetcorn, kohlrabi and home-made tartar sauce.

Tonight's dinner was a green salad topped with mustard and tarragon turkey, eaten with home made sourdough bread-rolls.

Neither of us had much appetite this evening, so dinner was just peanut butter on toast.

I made toasted cheese and pickle sandwiches for our brunch.

Sheryl made enchiladas verde for dinner. We ate them with sour cream (we didn't have any guacamole).

As usual, they were great.

This morning Sheryl made us porridge (more familiar to some of you as oatmeal) with the addition of the usual pecans, brown sugar and maple syrup.

It was good.

Tonight didn't involve much cooking. I made pasta with truffle pesto (something that Sheryl found at Eataly).

It was not very good (I ate only about half of mine), and will not be on our menu again.

I was supposed to make crêpes, but they were a complete failure (see the photo to the right). Instead, we had toast; on my toast I had butter, marmite and cheddar.

For tonight's dinner I cooked butter chicken, served with garlic naan bread.

It was so good to be able to eat something spicy after our Christmas in Chicago.

For brunch I made poached eggs on home-made sourdough bread-rolls.

It was nice to have something that was not take-away.

After our overnight flight we didn't want anything complex for dinner, so we heated up some frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had a spinach pizza topped with feta, egg and hot sauce.

I had a pepperoni and salami pizza (no egg).

Breakfast on our United flight was some kind of bread-roll (containing an egg).

It was fairly nondescript, but at least not downright offensive like dinner.

Our dinner on the flight was utterly dreadful.

We were sitting about 3 rows from the back of the plane, so by the time the food service reached us, there was only one choice: vegetable stir-fry.

As expected, dinner contained bell-pepper (paprika), so Sheryl couldn't eat it.

I managed two mouthfuls. It had a nasty chemical taste, and contained no flavourings (some soy sauce, hoi sin sauce, oyster sauce, or even teriyaki sauce would improved it).

Today was our flight home. Ashley took us to the airport.

We, of course, had ample time after check-in, so we found a bar near our departure gate and had something to eat (because we correctly assumed that the food on the flight would not be good). I had a so-called club sandwich, which was edible but not good. I had a Guinness with my food.

Today we went to Marc and Theresa's house for our belated New Year's Eve celebration.

I made spaghetti and meat balls (although I had to leave out the sambal because so many of Sheryl's family don't like spicy food), and Marc made fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli.

Marc has a completely different approach to fettuccine Alfredo, frying the chicken, then adding the broccoli to the pan, and finally adding the ingredients for the sauce, although the ingredients of the sauce are pretty much the same as my Alfredo sauce.

I tried some of both dishes, and they were both lovely.

I made a batch of malt and walnut bread rolls to have with dinner.

We took some of both pasta dishes back for Betty, who is still not feeling good.

We celebrated New Year's Eve at Sheryl's mum's house, because so many of the family were sick.

We got a large pizza with Italian sausage. Sheryl and I also shared a Casar salad.

Today Sheryl tested positive for Covid-19, and so is isolating herself.

Betty and I agreed to go back to Biaggi's, where we went 5 days ago; my treat this time.

Betty had chicken parmesan and pasta; I had something from the specials because it had gorgonzola sauce.

I had to order some extra sauce, but apart from that, everything was perfect.

This morning Betty went out to Dunkin Donuts to get breakfast. Sheryl and I had Bacon, Egg And Cheese Croissants.

This evening we had a take-away dinner from Portillo's: a burger for Sheryl (after all, she hadn't had a burger for a whole 28 hours!); I had an Italian Beef Sandwich with cheese; we shared a portion of French fries.

Today we drove to a strip-mall. Sheryl was looking for a phone case for her new mobile phone, and we both wanted to shop for some books.

While there we had a late lunch: burgers and French fries at "Five Guys".

The burgers were actually very good, but there were no options for drinks except for soda.

As usual everyone expected Betty to prepare Christmas dinner (apart from the crock-pot beef), which she hates doing, so Sheryl volunteered us to cook instead.

Sheryl made puff-pastry wraps (filled with parma ham, Gruyère and green beans) for a starter. They were popular.

For the main course there was beef cooked in a slow cooker with carrots and potatoes, slow roasted ham, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, spicy baked beans (which Becky prepared, successfully recreating their dad's recipe).

Ashley (Sheryl's niece) also promised to make biscuits (see the example photo to the right), but they did not materialise.

For dessert Sheryl made chocolate eclairs, which were a huge hit.

Sheryl, Al and I drank the bottle of Amarone (a gift from Sheryl's work) that we brought with us from Germany, and thereafter another Italian red (not as good as the Amarone).

Dinner was good, and everyone had plenty of what they liked to eat. The toughest part of cooking dinner was the usual issue of cooking in a strange kitchen; Betty doesn't even have a potato masher. and her selection of pans is very limited.

We ate dinner at about 15:30.

This morning, for brunch, we made croque madam for ourselves, and croque monsieur for Betty (who doesn't like egg).

This evening there was a big family event: dinner organised at Biaggi's (the one at Deer Park) by Brenda (Sheryl's cousin) and Ozzie (Brenda's partner).

Apart from Brenda, Ozzie, Sheryl and me, Sheryl's mum Betty, her sister Theresa and family (Marc, Ashley, Brooklyn and Kaylin), and her sister Becky and family (Al and Aliah) were there.

I ordered a bottle of Malbec for the red wine drinkers (Sheryl, Al and me), which was excellent; we needed a second bottle later.

I ordered a starter: stuffed (with Italian sausage, spinach, and garlic) mushrooms (in white wine and butter sauce. It was delicious.

For our main courses, Sheryl ordered the Seafood Scampi (Aioli, Shrimp, Crab, Garlic-Oregano Breadcrumbs) and pasta; I ordered the Fettuccini with Lobster, which was gorgeous. Sheryl normally doesn't like lobster, but she tasted my meal and declared that it was tastier than hers.

After the main courses Al ordered a crème brûlée; I had a a taste, and it was very good. I was rather surprised not find panna cotta on the menu, given that Biaggi's is an Italian restaurant.

The decor of Biaggi's is nice, and the service was excellent.

It was a great evening out, and everyone ate well and had fun.

For dinner we had take-away (again!). I had another Italian beef sub from Portillos.

This morning Sheryl and I drove to a shopping mall (don't remember what we were shopping for). When we arrived, we got breakfast: cinnabons and coffee.

For lunch I had some of the olives stuffed with blue cheese, that Sheryl recently bought. They are so good!

No-one else likes blue cheese, so they are all mine.

For breakfast today I had some gorgonzola on toast, followed my a piece of toasted cinnamon and currant bread.

This evening we (Sheryl. her mum Betty, her niece Kaylin, and I) went to the Olive Garden for dinner.

Sheryl and I ordered a bottle Pinot Noir to share. The waitress was fairly new in the job, and had previously only opened two other bottles of wine, and was struggling to open the bottle. We helped her to open the bottle, at which point we noticed that it was not the wine we had ordered; it tasted OK, so, to keep things simple, we drank the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Betty's meal didn't arrive with the rest of the plates, and the waitress instead gave hers to a neighbouring table who had arrived after us. Eventually, Betty's meal arrived.

The same neighbouring table had to re-order one of their meals, as it didn't arrive.

Betty ordered spaghetti Alfredo with chicken and broccoli, plus extra sauce, which was OK, although Olive Garden no longer use garlic in their Alfredo sauce.

Sheryl ordered veal parmesan with fettuccine; Kaylin ordered penne with chicken, and I ordered prawn pasta (which was too dry, so I ordered extra sauce).

Sheryl and I also ordered an Caesar Salad, which was also too dry.

In all, it was a very disappointing meal. I make better Caesar Salad and better Alfredo sauce, and there is always enough sauce when I make it.

By now, I am sure that the waitress has either learned to do her job better, or been fired.

Sheryl's mum went shopping this morning, and brought back some take-away for brunch.

I had a bacon/cheese burger.

This morning we (Sheryl, her Mum, and I) went to Walker Bros. for breakfast.

Sheryl had a Belgian waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream, to which she added maple syrup.

I had poached eggs, sausages, bacon and hash browns, with pancakes on the side.

For dinner this evening we got take-away from Popeyes: chicken wings, coleslaw (which was dreadful), biscuits (similar to scones) and mashed potato with gravy.

Today I had some toasted cinnamon currant bread for brunch.

This morning we went to Dunkin Donuts to get some take-away for breakfast.

Sheryl got a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Croissant; I got a sandwich of Bacon, Egg and Cheese in Sourdough bread. We both had unsweetened iced tea to drink.

I was reasonable impressed with the food. The croissant looked better than the equivalent from Burger King.

Having arrived in Chicago, we begin 3 weeks of unhealthy American eating.

Tonight, for dinner, we had take-away from Taco Bell: for Sheryl a Mexican Pizza; for me a Burrito Supreme.

I wasn't really impresses, but Taco Bell is one of the things that Sheryl craves when she is away from the USA.

Our lunch on the plane was a so-called pizza twist.

It was disgusting, and leaked sauce when I tried to open it.

Our brunch on the plane was Channa (chick pea) Masala. This was described by the purser as Chicken Marcellus, even though the label (pictured to the right) was clear.

It was OK.

Before our flight we had time to get a nice breakfast at Käfer. We both had the English Garden Breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausages bread rolls and pretzels, but I forgot to take a photo of the food), plus orange juice and Cappuccinos (technically Cappuccini).

It was really good.

Because we are leaving for Chicago in the morning, we needed a dinner that was quick and easy, that didn't create lots of dirty dishes, so we had a couple of Flammküchen (a German dish similar to pizza) that we had in the freezer.

They weren't very good.

Tonight for dinner I made a large omelette (to share) and hash browns.

For tonight's dinner I made a green salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and avocado) topped with tandoori prawns, and served with home-made sourdough bread-rolls.

For dinner tonight we made puff pastry wraps filled with Parma ham, guyere and green beans (the supermarket had no out of season asparagus).

They were delicious.

For brunch today we had raw vegetables and crisps/chips with French onion dip.

We have been trying to run down our stock of fresh food, so that we don't have to throw away so much when we leave for Chicago, so the selection of vegetables was rather limited.

For dinner tonight we heated up the frozen chicken enchiladas with brown sauce, which we ate with sour cream and guacamole.

When Sheryl made this batch of enchiladas, there wasn't as much sauce as usual, and most of that sauce went onto the enchiladas that we ate immediately, so today's were a little dry.

Despite the lack of sauce, they were good.

For today's brunch I made poached eggs on home-made sourdough bread-rolls.

We then had another bread-roll each: mine with French butter and Marmite, and Sheryl's with honey and cinnamon,

For our regular curry evening I cooked a turkey and mushroom satay and rice.

It was delicious.

Tonight we cooked salmon baked with green pesto, green beans and cherry tomatoes, served with kohlrabi.

It was really tasty.

Sheryl had a work event, so I was alone for dinner. I didn't have much appetite, so I made myself a couple of cheese and pickle toasted sandwiches.

I had trouble finishing them.

For dessert we had some kind of Eccles tart (a cross between an Eccles cake and a mince pie), with some cream.

They were good, but I would have preferred a mince pie.

For dinner tonight I cooked ricotta and artichoke tortelloni in a spicy tomato sauce, garnished with grated parmesan.

It was lovely.

For bunch today I made Crêpes, which we ate with banana, blueberries and maple syrup.

Sheryl made quesadillas (filled with freshly made refried beans and cheese) for dinner.

We ate them with a vegetarian chili, guacamole and sour cream.

For brunch today I made toasted cheese (mature cheddar) and pickle (Branston) sandwiches.

For our regular curry evening I made a beef madras with rice.

It was fantastic.

I was on my own for dinner tonight.

I heated up a frozen 4-cheeses pizza, which I topped with anchovies, capers and red onion. My hand slipped when adding hot sauce, and there was way too much sauce on the pizza.

I met my cousin Pat for lunch today. We went to the Sitar restaurant in Lehel. I no longer remember what we had, but it was delicious. My curry was rather spicier than hers (she told me mine was too spicy for her). We had some naan bread with our curries.

For this evening's dinner I cooked sweet and sour prawns (deep fried, in batter) and rice.

For our dinner tonighz I made New England Clam Chowder, which we ate with burger buns.

For dinner we made vegetarian burgers (made with Beyond Burgers).

For brunch we had croissants from the Saphir bakery.

Sheryl also ate half a grapefruit (I can't eat )grapefruit because of the statins that I take).

For dinner tonight we heated up the frozen enchiladas, eaten with guacamole and sour cream. This batch didn't have enough sauce, and most of that went on the first of the batch, so today's dinner was rather dry.

We had margaritas with dinner.

For dessert we had Gü cheesecake with salted caramel.

For today's brunch I made poached eggs on home-made sourdough bread-rolls.

For dinner tonight I cooked pasta with baked feta and cherry tomatoes.

Tonight we made club sandwiches (using turkey, not chicken). We ate them with some truffle crisps/chips that Sheryl brought from her recent trip to Rome.

Sheryl had to work late so I heated up two frozen pizzas for dinner: for Sheryl a 4-cheeses pizza topped with tuna and feta, and for me a salami and pepperoni pizza.

For dinner tonight I heated up the leftover quiche, and sautéd our last two potatoes.

After both eating a substantial brunch, we only had room for some cheese and crackers this evening.

Today we were invited to brunch by our neighbours Isabelle and Markus.

As usual, they provided bread, cheeses, fruit salad and prosecco; we took a quiche Lorraine and eclairs.

Tonight we cooked a Cheesy Mushroom and Spinach Puff Pastry Roll

For today's brunch I made blueberry pancakes with cinnamon.

I ate mine with butter; Sheryl ate hers with maple syrup.

Tonight I cooked Thai turkey ramen, which is something we haven't eaten for quite a while.

It was lovely.

This time the hash browns worked rather better. I cooked the potatoes in small patties, in plenty of oil rather than cooking one huge hash brown.

Tonight I cooked cauliflower cheese.

Normally we have bread-rolls with it, so that we have something with which to mop up the cheese sauce, but we ate the last of the bread-rolls yesterday.

For our evening meal today I made a risotto, with butternut squash, artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes. We ate it sprinkled with chili flakes.

It was delicious.

For our dinner tonight I made a green salad, which we topped with baked goat-cheese, and ate with the last of my home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

For tonight's dinner I heated up a frozen lasagne.

For brunch today we had toasted cheese (mature cheddar) and pickle (Branston) sandwiches.

Today we went out to dinner to celebrate Sheryl's birthday.

We went to Le Stollberg, a French restaurant the the centre of town.

We treated ourselves to a bottle of Amarone wine, which was really good.

We began with a complimentary amuse-bouch. Sheryl enjoyed hers, but I hate beetroot.

Sheryl started with warm goose liver, and I had scallops.

For our main courses, Sheryl ordered halibut with hazelnuts, and I ordered saddle of venison.

Finally, Sheryl got a chocolate lava cake, whilst I had the cheese platter.

I had a glass of armagnac to finish off with.

We were both very pleased with every course (except for the beetroot in the amuse-bouch). The service was also excellent: fast, efficient and friendly. The restaurant is pleasantly decorated and fairly small.

We have been looking for a new good French restaurant for some time, and are happy that we seem to have found one.

For brunch today I made scrambled eggs on toast.

Sheryl was a little late home from work, so we had chosen to have pizzas.

Sheryl had a spinach pizza topped with an egg; normally she also has feta on it, but we ran out. I had a 4-cheeses pizza topped with anchovies and capers.

Today's dinner was pasta Alfredo with steamed broccoli, which was delicious.

Ashley flew home today, and we wanted something a little healthier after eating so much unhealthy food while she was here.

For dinner I made a green salad, topped with mustard and tarragon turkey, and with a bread roll on the side.

We discovered that Ashley likes curries, particularly butter chicken, so tonight Ashley and I cooked butter turkey (we didn't have any chicken in the freezer).

We served it with rice and garlic naan bread.

Ashley wanted to try Currywurst (sausage with curry sauce) while in Germany, so we went to a kiosk at the Viktualienmarkt.

Currywurst is a Berlin specialty, so it is hard to find in Munich.

Sheryl and Ashley shared a plate of Currywurst and Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes).

I had a Polish sausage in a bun.

We all drank glasses of Helles (standard lager), although you can see from the photo that it is cloudy like a Weißbier.

The beer was OK, but the sausages were not very good.

Tonight I made myself poached eggs and baked beans on toast.

I was rather tired this evening, so I just cooked myself a pizza for dinner: salami and pepperoni.

I had a so-called English Breakfast at the Café Brasserie Meuwese, a short walk from the hotel. It was good.

Ashley and Sheryl flew to Rome for a few days of sightseeing.

I went on a flying visit to Amsterdam. I arrived fairly late, so I ate dinner at the hotel: a Caesar salad with chicken and bread. It was actually excellent.

For dinner today we went to the Hofbräukeller for Bavarian food.

Ashley had a pork schnitzel with French fries, Sheryl had Käsespätzle (the German equivalent of Mac and Cheese), and I had half of a roast duck with red cabbage and a dumpling.

For today's breakfast we made croque madame.

It was wonderful, and Ashley enjoyed it greatly.

This evening Ashley decided she fancied some Bavarian food, so we went to the Hofbräukeller for dinner.

Ashley had Schweineschitzel (pork schnitzel) and chips (French fries); Sheryl had Käsespätzle (the German equivalent of mac and cheese) and I had half a duck with red cabbage and a Kartoffelknödel (potato dumpling).

After we returned to Munich this evening, no-one felt like cooking. Instead we went to L'Angelo della Pizza.

Ashley ordered Penne Tocchino (penne with chicken in a cream sauce); Sheryl ordered pizza Parma (pizza topped with Parma ham and arugula) and I ordered a pizza diavolo (a pizza with spicy salami). It was all lovely.

Ashley drank a glass of house white wine, and Sheryl and I shared a bottle of Nero d'Avola.

Today we took a trip to see a couple of castles: Schloss Linderhof and Schloss Neuschwanstein.

I didn't want to deal with the walking, so while the ladies were walking up to Neuschwanstein I had lunch at the Restaurant Alpenstuben in Schwangau (the town below the castle). The ladies had eaten enough snacks in the car, and didn't get lunch. I had a venison goulash with Spätzle, which was very good.

Ashley told us that she likes butter chicken, so this evening she helped me cook a butter turkey.

We ate it with rice and garlic naan.

It was very good.

For breakfast today Sheryl baked a selection of scones: some cheese scones (with Gruyère, parmesan and cheddar), some plain scones and some orange and cranberry scones.

We ate the cheese scones with extra cheese, and the others with clotted cream and jams.

While Ashley and Sheryl were out sightseeing this afternoon I made a lasagne and an Olive Garden salad. Sheryl bought a loaf of nice crusty bread which we also ate with dinner.

This morning we took Ashley out to the Schneider Bräuhaus for a Bavarian breakfast of Weißwurst (white sausage), Weißbier (wheat beer), pretzels and Obatzda.

Ashley and Sheryl both drank "love beer" (flavoured with fruit of some kind), and I had an original Weißbier.

Ashley greatly enjoyed the Weißwurst and the love beer; less so the Obatzda.

Tonight we cooked chicken enchiladas verde; as always, great.

We had some tortilla chips and guacamole on the side.

Tonight was Ashley's first meal in Munich, so we took her out to Zum Franziskaner.

Ashley ordered an Ox Burger and chips (French fries); Sheryl ordered half a roast duck, with a Kartoffelknödel (potato dumpling) and red cabbage; I order roast pork with a Kartoffelknödel.

Sheryl cooked quesadillas (filled with home-made refried beans and cheese) for dinner. We ate them with sour cream and guacamole, plus a bit of hot sauce.

For dessert we had a pumpkin Swiss-roll that she made earlier in the day.

For brunch today we had avocado toast. As usual, I had balsamic vinegar on mine, and Sheryl had malt vinegar on hers.

Sheryl recently bought a new larger bottle of Sarson's malt vinegar which doesn't have a top designed for sprinkling, so she ended up with too much vinegar, all in the wrong place.

We were both still hungry after two slices of avocado toast, so I had another piece of toast with butter, marmite and cheddar cheese; Sheryl had a slice of toast with peanut butter, honey and cinnamon.

We had planned to share a mango which we bought recently, but when we started peeling it, we discovered that it was no good, so I had a plum instead.

For our dinner this evening I made a turkey satay and rice.

It was, as always, excellent.

For tonight's dinner I cooked a New England Clam Chowder, which we ate with home-made malt and walnut bread-rolls.

It was wonderful.

There were enough leftovers to put into the freezer for another day.

With the chowder we drank a bottle of pecorino white wine. Sheryl discovered this type of wine on her recent training course in Rome, where pecorino is the standard house wine at restaurants. I was really impressed with the wine and we will definitely be drinking it again.

This evening I cooked pasta (capellini) and meatballs in spicy tomato sauce.

This time I added fennel seeds to the meatballs, which really added to the flavour (now added to the recipe).

There were enough meatballs left over for a lunch for me, later in the week.

Tonight we ate the leftover turkey pot pie for dinner; no potatoes this time.

This evening, for dinner, I cooked ricotta and artichoke stuffed tortelloni (bought ready-made), served in a spicy tomato sauce.

It was lovely. We are both getting into artichokes lately.

For our dessert we had individual salted caramel cheesecakes by Gü.

For tonight's dinner I cooked a turkey pot pie and mashed potatoes.

As usual, it was delicious.

For our brunch today Sheryl made two flavours of scones: some with cheese (Gruyère, Cheddar and Parmesan) and some plain.

We ate the cheese scones with French butter and more cheese (and, in my case, with marmite); the plain scones with clotted cream and jam (strawberry for Sheryl and blueberry for me).

For our evening meal I cooked omelette (filled with spring onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and goat camembert) and sauté potatoes.

For today's brunch I made pancakes. We had no fruit or berries in stock, so they were plain, except for some cinnamon.

Although we had planned our usual curry evening tonight, we have both been suffering from diarrhoea, due to something we ate or drank, and decided to eat something less challenging.

We both got take-away Franzose (French) burgers from the Hamburgerei Zwei, mine with added bacon, and shared a portion of chips (French fries) with truffle mayonnaise.

For our dinner tonight I made a butternut squash risotto, to which I added sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes. I had some chili flakes on mine.

Sheryl had to work late this evening, so I ate alone: a salami and pepperoni pizza for dinner.

When Sheryl got home she had a French-bread pizza.

For tonight's dinner I made a green salad, topped with baked camembert and served with burger buns.

Tonight I heated up a frozen vegetarian chili, which I served with rice, grated cheese and sour cream.

We had left some guacamole in the fridge, but had to throw it away, because it was past its date and had gone a nasty brown colour.

After the usual disappointing airline food on our flight home with United Airlines, we needed something quick (so that we could get an early night), simple and healthy for our first dinner at home.

I cooked truffle tagliatelle with tomato and truffle sauce.

For our last breakfast in Chicago, we went back to Walker Bros.

Sheryl had Belgian waffles with maple syrup, whipped cream and strawberries; I had "basted eggs", bacon and pancakes.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the bacon was thick-cut, rather than the typical American thin crispy fare.

Breakfast was back to unhealthy American fast food: take-away bacon, egg and cheese croissants and hash browns, from Burger King.

After days of unhealthy eating, both Sheryl and I were craving salads.

We got take-away chicken caesar salads from Portillo's. They were pretty good.

We stopped on the drive back to Chicago at Arby's.

I had a beef and bacon sandwich. The others had beef and cheese sandwiches.

Another disappointing breakfast at the hotel.

After the funeral we (Sheryl, Theresa and I) ate dinner at White Castle in Lancaster with Sheryl's aunt Judy.

White Castle sell sliders: mini-burgers.

The others (Sheryl's mum, sister Becky and niece Ashley) went for Japanese food at a Hibachi restaurant.

We ate breakfast at our hotel (the Holiday Inn Express in Lancaster).

Sheryl had pancaked, maple syrup and bacon. I had a cheese omelette, bacon and a poppy seed bagel.

The food was not very impressive, and the coffee at breakfast was dreadful.

On the road down to Lancaster, Ohio, we stopped for a southern style lunch at Cracker Barrel.

Tonight the ladies ate their leftover spaghetti and meatballs. I had leftover pizza.

This evening there were four of us for dinner: Sheryl's mum Betty, Sheryl's aunt Frances, Sheryl and me.

We decided to go to Maggiano's for Italian food.

Betty and Frances ordered a soup starter, served with bread. The restaurant has a new Italian chef, so some of the recipes have changed, including the one for their bread, which is now flavoured with rosemary; none of us like it.

For the main course we all ordered spaghetti and meatball (yes, one giant meatball per plate!), wth extra sauce. It was pretty good; the meatballs were flavoured with fennel, which I will now try adding to my own meatballs. We left with 4 doggy bags, for another day.

This evening most of the family were at the family home, so someone went out and collected take-away pizzas: one with pepperoni and one with Italian sausage.

The pizzas were good. There were some slices left for another day.

This morning we went to Walker Bros. for breakfast.

Sheryl ordered French toast (served with strawberries); I ordered eggs Benedict and pancakes.

When Sheryl's French toast arrived she said "no, wait, I ordered waffles". I and everyone else at the table said "no you didn't".

This evening Sheryl was overcome with cravings for Taco Bell, so she headed out to the nearest Taco Bell and brought home our dinner: for her a Mexican pizza and a beef burrito supreme, and for me two beef 7-layer burritos.

This morning we made a trip out to Burger King and bought bacon, egg and cheese croissants and hash browns to take away.

Dinner on the plane was some kind of attempt at a Calzone, filled with tomato sauce; no cheese, no flavour and dry as a bone. It was also not filling.

It looked more like a Cornish Pasty than a Calzone.

Lunch on the flight to Chicago was just as bad as expected.

We both chose the vegetarian pasta, which was Mac & Cheese with cauliflower. It was nasty: I don't mind Mac & Cheese, and I also like cauliflower cheese, but I don't want them cooked together.

Knowing that catering on Lufthansa flights has become diabolically bad, we had a proper breakfast at the airport before boarding.

We ate at Kaefer in the airport. We both had scrambled eggs and sausages.

I ate some of the bread-rolls with my breakfast; Sheryl ate a pretzel, because all of Kaefer's bread contains rye, to which she is allergic.

Tonight we wanted something quick and easy for dinner, because we have an early flight tomorrow, so we opted for pizzas.

Sheryl had a tomato pinsa, and I had a salami and pepperoni pizza.

For our dinner tonight we made fish tacos, using fish fingers/sticks, slaw, radishes, feta and avocado creme.

They were pretty good, but not as good as when made with marinaded fish.

For today's brunch we made Croque Madame.

Sheryl had bought some especially good ham which made the Croque Madame taste even better.

Because we had tickets for the ballet tonight, we ate at Zum Franziskaner near the National Theater.

Sheryl had half of a roast duck with a Semel Knödel (a bread dumpling) and Blaukraut (red cabbage).

I had sausage (Bratwurst) with Sauerkraut.

Both dishes were delicious.

Sheryl's dinner was too large for her, so I ate some of her duck.

I Sheryl drank a glass of red wine (a Montepulciano) and I drank a Weißbier.

For tonight's dinner I heated up two curries (a satay and a badam pasanda) from the freezer, to make a thali. We served it with rice.

For dinner I made pumpkin soup, using a BBC recipe, eaten with the last of the bread rolls that Sheryl bought recently from Backspielhaus.

I was not very impressed with the BBC recipe, and will look for a better one next time I cook this.

The bread rolls were lovely.

Sheryl again had to work late. I don't know what she had for dinner, although we both had crackers with peanut butter and/or nutella when she got home).

For my dinner I went to Pequeños. I had a plate of Nachos Grande and a Weißbier.

The beer was good. They have now changed from Franziskaner to Erdinger, which is a great improvement.

The nachos were nothing special: not at all spicy, not even the jalapeños. Nowhere near as good as the last time we ordered them.

Sheryl had to work this evening, with a late finish (about 9 p.m.). She was able to come home for a while in the late afternoon to grab a quick dinner: a 4-cheeses pizza topped with tuna.

Later, I made myself the same dinner (with the difference that my tuna was in olive oil).

Today I met our friend Marcus for lunch at the Schneider Bräuhaus.

Marcus ordered a Schweinshaxe and a non-alcoholic drink; I ordered Schweinebraten (roast pork with crackling), served with a Leberknödel (liver dumpling) and a Weißbier.

Marcus was obviously very hungry, and ate his food very quickly.

Tonight's dinner was Dim Sum from the freezer.

We hadn't eaten this for a while, and several of the packs of Dim Sum were suffering from freezer burn. Also, Sheryl recently bought a new brand of spring rolls which were not very good. The prawn sticks, however, were very good, as was my barbecue pork bun.

For dinner tonight I cooked omelettes and hash browns.

I really need to improve my technique for making hash browns.

After our unhealthy diet yesterday evening, we tried to redress the balance with today's brunch: raw vegetables, crisps/chips and French onion dip.

It was very enjoyable.

This evening we were at the Oktoberfest, at our usual table at the Armbrustschützenzelt.

Each person gets vouchers for 2 litres of beer, a share of a cold starter platter, and a hot meal.

We bought a couple of giant pretzels for the table.

Eventually Sheryl and I ordered a käsespätzle (the German equivalent of Mac and Cheese) to share, so we will have to go back to the Armbrustschützenzelt to cash in the second voucher.

For today's brunch I cooked crêpes, which we ate with berries (strawberries, raspberries and blueberries) and maple syrup.

Again, we ate them all, although there are some berries left for Sheryl's lunches during the week.

For our regular Friday curry night I cooked a turkey badam pasanda, which we ate with garlic naan.

It was really good.

There was enough left-over to freeze for another day.

For dinner tonight I cooked penne al Arabiata.

Normally, there is some left-over, but tonight we were both very hungry and ate the lot.

Tonight I cooked a couple of frozen pizzas.

Sheryl had a spinach pizza, topped with red onion, feta and an egg; I had a salami and pepperoni pizza topped with red onion and an egg. I also had some coleslaw with mine.

Sheryl was very hungry after eating almost none of yesterday's dinner, and ate every scrap (normally she leaves at least one slice).

For dinner tonight cooked ostrich steaks that I bought a few weeks ago and froze; they were expensive!

I cooked chips (French fries - twice fried) and corn on the cob to accompany the steaks.

I really enjoyed my dinner, but after a couple of bites of her dinner, Sheryl started to feel ill. She spent the rest of the evening and much of the night throwing up. I think she now has a problem with steak, because when we went to the Rusticana for my birthday she also felt ill after sampling my filet steak.

Tonight I cooked a butternut squash risotto.

We didn't have very much butternut squash in the freezer. I also forgot to put sun-dried tomatoes in the risotto (normally I soak some in the white wine that I use later for cooking risotto, for about 30 minutes, otherwise they are too dry), but Sheryl found some sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil (they are the things that look like turds of some small animal, on the plate) which were a good substitute; in addition we forgot to buy more chili flakes (we usually sprinkle some on top of the risotto).

Despite all the screw-ups, the risotto was really good.

After our very substantial brunch, neither of us had enough appetite for a proper evening meal.

Instead we had crackers and the leftover Obatzda, pretzels and radishes.

Today we were invited for brunch in the apartment garden by our neighbours Isabelle and Markus.

As usual, I forgot to take photos.

We are starting to run out of ideas for food to take, so this time we suggested a Bavarian breakfast; the suggestion seemed very popular, especially with Markus and Erik.

We bought the Weißwurst (white sausage), the Obatzda, the pretzels and radishes; we also got some bread rolls from a nice bakery, salami sticks and some Gouda cubes.

Isabelle baked some muffins and made a fruit salad, and Markus got more bread and pretzels, and provided Weißbier (Erdinger, one of the good brands).

Isabelle, as expected, didn't eat any Weißwurst and drank no Weißbier, even though Markus got some alcohol-free for her.

Their son Erik told me he was going to "eat all the Weißwurst"; I thought this was an idle boast, but in fact he ate 2½! Not bad for a 5 year old.

For dinner tonight I cooked pasta (tortiglioni) with zucchini, mint and ricotta.

It was lovely.

For today's brunch I made poached eggs on toast (I know, I had this for dinner two days ago).

On my second piece of toast I had mature cheddar cheese and marmite; Sheryl had honey and cinnamon.

For our weekly curry evening I made a turkey satay (with added banana) and rice.

This one was particularly tasty.

Sheryl had a barbecue at work this evening (she made a cheesecake with salted caramel for the event, which was all eaten), so I was alone for dinner.

I didn't feel like cooking anything much (it's no fun, cooking for just oneself), so I had some poached eggs on toast.

On the second piece of toast I had Gruyère cheese and mustard.
